FAMILY ACTIVITY CENTRE FACILITATOR – LANGUAGE SKILLS (Student)
Hours of Work: Variable up to 36.25 hours per week
Location: Upper Canada Village (11 km east of Morrisburg)
Salary: $18.45 per hour
Period of Employment: June to August 2026
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be a representative of Upper Canada Village
- Welcome guests to the Family Activity Centre in English and French, orient them, explain and animate exhibits, and facilitate historical workshops and demonstrations using crafts, music, drama, games, tools, and historical costumes.
- Assist with camp counsellor duties as required.
- Assist with school programmes in May, June, and September as required.
- Work safely at all times and report unsafe activities immediately.
- Embody the St. Lawrence Parks Commission’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles when interacting with staff and guests.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Linguistic skills in English and French.
- Strong communication skills with guests and, in particular, children.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to lead workshops and to explain and demonstrate a range of historical activities such as crafts, music, games and tools.
- Knowledge of 19th‑century Ontario history.
- Ability to learn historical information, policies and procedures related to the Family Activity Centre and Upper Canada Village.
- Ability to assist with other tasks such as obtaining supplies, cleaning, and researching visitor questions and recent activity centres.
- Ability to wear a modern uniform.
- Valid emergency first‑aid certificate or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to learn and adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal, guest and fellow staff safety at all times.
- Vulnerable service sector check required for this position.
