Position Summary

The Youth Peer Educator (YPE) plays a key role in supporting youthviolence prevention and healthy relationship education initiatives. YPEs arerecruited from priority populations and are trained to deliver engaging,youth-centered workshops that promote healthy relationships, consent, digitalsafety, bystander intervention, and awareness of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

Working alongside experienced clinicians and program staff, YPEs use theirleadership skills and peer-to-peer connections to foster meaningfulconversations, increase awareness, and help connect youth to appropriatesupports and services. YPE’s are expected to commit approximately 2-4 hours perweek from September 2026 to April 2027. A weekly honorarium will be given based on hours worked.

Key Responsibilities

WorkshopFacilitation and Youth Engagement

- Co-design and co-facilitate educational workshops and presentations foryouth on topics including:
- Healthy relationships
- Consent and boundaries
- Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) awareness
- Digital safety and online relationships
- Bystander intervention
- Communication and conflict resolution

- Create welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning environments.
- Engage youth participants through interactive activities, discussions,and peer-led learning approaches.
- Share information in an age-appropriate, culturally responsive, andtrauma-informed manner.

PeerSupport and Resource Navigation

- Serve as a positive peer role model and advocate for healthyrelationships and violence prevention.
- Provide information about available supports and community resources.




- Recognize when participants may benefit from additional support andconnect them to staff through established safe referral pathways.
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance withprogram guidelines.

Trainingand Professional Development

- Youth Peer Educators will receive extensive preparation and ongoingsupport throughout their involvement inthe program. Training is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and delivered through interactive learningmethods that promote confidence and skill development.
- Successfully complete a comprehensive 12-week Youth Peer EducatorTraining Program covering:
- Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) prevention and awareness
- Healthy relationships
- Consent and boundary-setting
- Digital safety and online relationships
- Bystander intervention
- Facilitation skills
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Trauma-informed practice
- Safe referral pathways and community resources

- Participate in interactive workshops, role-playing exercises, andexperiential learning activities.
- Attend ongoing mentorship sessions and professional developmentopportunities.




- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and growth in youthengagement and violence prevention practices.

Qualifications

- Youth or young adult (ages 15-24) with a passion for promoting healthyrelationships and violence prevention.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Interest in peer leadership, advocacy, public speaking and communityengagement.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of youth.
- Commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsivespaces.
- Willingness to complete all required training and participate in ongoingmentorship.
- Previous experience in peer leadership, youth engagement, mentoring,facilitation, or community involvement is considered an asset
- Knowledge of youth issues, mental health, healthy relationships, orviolence prevention, is considered an asset.
- Ability to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check
