Community Support Worker – Part time Weekdays
Nanaimo -6 hour shifts | Weekdays
We are looking for a kind, reliable and energetic support person to work with a 27-year-old woman with autism and an intellectual disability who is new to Nanaimo.
She is friendly, social and enjoys music, art, gardening, reading, animals, walks, exploring new places and being active in the community. We are looking for someone who will genuinely enjoy spending time with her while helping her build confidence, independence and connections in her new community.
Typical hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 10 am- 4 pm We are hoping to find 2–3 people who can each work one or two weekday shifts.
Support may include:
Getting out into the community and trying new activities
Walks, parks, recreation and local events
Art, music, reading and gardening
Helping with straightforward meal preparation
Encouraging independence and everyday life skills
Providing companionship,
encouragement and positive social interaction
Support client find volunteer or other work opportunities
The ideal person is:
Warm, patient and compassionate
Dependable and responsible
Energetic and enjoys being out and about
Comfortable supporting an adult with autism and an intellectual disability
Able to encourage independence while providing appropriate support
Previous experience is an asset, but the right personality and attitude are very important
