Cambrian College’s Schools of Health Sciences and Emergency Services requires Fire Program Technologists, on a part-time basis beginning September 2026. These positions are either temporary part time or on a casual "on-call" basis, up to 24 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required for this role."

Responsibilities

- Plan, set up, organize, and maintain fire training labs and practical learning environments safely and efficiently.
- Support faculty with the preparation and delivery of practical laboratory and training activities.
- Assist with demonstrations and provide technical support related to previously taught skills and procedures under the direction of faculty.
- Prepare, inspect, organize, and restore equipment and training areas before and following scheduled labs.
- Maintain the operational condition, security, and organization of fire service equipment, supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support the safe operation of practical training activities by reinforcing established safety procedures and reporting concerns or non-compliance to faculty
- Collaborate with faculty and other program staff to support the effective operation of the Pre-Service Firefighter program.

Required

- Minimum of a one-year certificate in Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training, Fire Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with the application.



Applicants who completed their education outside of Canada are required to submit a WES or ICAS assessment with their application.)
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I and Level II certification.
- NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials certification.
- Must hold current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Must hold a DZ licence
- Relevant experience within the fire service or a fire training environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of fire service equipment, personal protective equipment, protected training practices, OFM Practical Skills and the OFM Evaluation Processes
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage equipment, inventory, records, and multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively support faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Additional Assets/Preferred

- Experience with respiratory protection equipment.
- Experience maintaining, inspecting, or coordinating repairs of fire service equipment and PPE.
- NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor 1 certification
- Previous experience supporting teaching and learning in a practical lab or fire training environment.
