Associate Producer, Q with Tom Power Please note: This role is a one-year contract position based in St John's and will require working occasional evenings and weekends as per production needs.
CBC is currently seeking an Associate Producer for Q with Tom Power , reporting to the Executive Producer. Five days a week, acclaimed interviewer Tom Power sits down with the artists, writers, actors and musicians who define pop culture.

You have an audience-first mindset and are willing to adapt and try new things to reach recent audiences. You respect metrics and use them to inform the kinds of stories and interviews you pitch, and how to package and promote them. You are mindful of ensuring that the content on our channels reflects and appeals to the audiences we serve, the communities they represent and the audiences we are looking to grow.
You are well-acquainted with Journalistic Standards and Practices of CBC (or similar) and are confident making judgements in complex and stressful situations in accordance with these journalistic policy guidelines, including recognizing when other counsel is needed.
Key tasks Conceives, pitches, chases, writes, produces and edits interviews and features
Identifies compelling stories and guests that connect with our audience, balancing high-profile artists with established and emerging talent from regions across Canada
Crafts intros and question lines that reflect the voice and tone of Q with Tom Power
Handles administrative tasks associated with production, including booking guests, lines and studios, accessing background materials, logging music and content tracking
Mixes and delivers segments for all platforms: CBC Radio, CBC Listen and external podcast platforms
Collaborates with digital and social teams from the pitch process to final delivery to ensure a multi-platform storytelling experience
Ensures that equipment,



facilities, program sources and personnel are available to meet operational and program requirements
Sets up and operates equipment to meet program and production goals
Liaises with the team in Toronto to ensure smooth production from the studio in St. John's
Liaises with St. John's team to coordinate on the ground technical troubleshooting as needed
Qualifications You possess the following:
A university degree or equivalent
Knowledge of the competitive landscape
Knowledge of contemporary arts and culture in regions across Canada
Audio storytelling and production experience, including demonstrated chasing, writing and editing skills
Robust grasp of the conversational voice and identity of Q
Knowledge of CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices, or similar
Experience working with a host
Experience managing guests both in studio and remotely
Experience providing or sourcing technical support in a studio environment
At least 1 year of experience editing audio, experience with Dalet is a solid asset
Cultural awareness and sensitivity, with connections to diverse communities
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing work patterns, processes and methods
Independence and self-motivation, with strong interpersonal skills
Curiosity, openness to feedback and commitment to continuous learning and personal growth
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends as required
Knowledge of CBC's best practices, including the language guide, is an asset
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
