Social Worker, Medication Assessment Centre
The Medication Assessment Centre (MAC)/USaskChronic Pain Clinic (UCPC) is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of chronic pain focused direct patient care clinical services, both in person and remotely, for Saskatchewan residents. The clinical team includes pharmacists, physical therapists, social workers,physicians. The UCPC team contributes to the undergraduate education of a variety of health professional learners from the University of Saskatchewan and elsewhere.

Primary Purpose: As part of theUSaskChronic Pain Clinic(UCPC),youwill applytrauma-informed counseling approaches to deliver care and treatment to those with chronic pain. You will develop and present evidence-based educational material in group settings. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to deliver the best care for clients experiencing chronic pain, play an active role on a cooperative team, and grow boththeirclinical and leadership skills.

Nature of Work: Reporting to theAssociateDirector of the MAC/UCPC,youwill provide both in-person and remote (i.e., phone / videoconference) clinical consultations withclientswho have chronic pain.Youwill workinterprofessionallywith our pharmacists, physical therapist, chronic pain physicians(who is part of this chronic pain clinic team), family physicians (who will refer their patients), and other health professionals who are part of theclient’s circle of care. This will include participating in case conferences, in which individualpatientcases will be discussed by theUCPCteam and other members of aclient’s care team. Shift work will not berequired.

Accountabilities:

Provide directtrauma-informed counselingand education, couple/family supportand education, and client system support, to clients who are referred to theUCPC

Provide relevant assessments, care plans,and evaluation of allUCPCclients

Collaborate with other health professionals (withinUCPCand outsideUCPC) in the management of individualclients

Participate in UCPC program development and strategic plan goals

Attend weekly meetings withUCPCteam members to discuss clinic operationsandclinical case discussions

Education:



ABachelor’sDegreeorMaster’s Degree inSocial Workisrequired.Advanced education incounselling, addictions, mental health, andchronic pain management will be considered an asset.

Licensure: A license to practicesocial work within the province of Saskatchewan,registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers, and proof of $5,000,000 Professional Liability Insurancearerequired.

Experience: Applicants must have a minimum of two years ofexperienceproviding counseling. Previousexperienceworking in health care, on an interdisciplinary team,providingcare tohighly complexclientsand managingclientswith chronic pain will be considered assets.

Strong health profession skills (e.g.,counselling,patient interviewing, empathetic communication,trauma informed care, documentation, computer);

Strong community advocacy skills: connects clients to community networks, social services and supportive healthcare and community resources;

Effective group facilitator: lead therapeutic groups. Familiarity with Acceptance Commitment Theory an asset;

Creative and confident in designing and presenting educational content and workshops focused on chronic pain;

Specialized training: Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) completion or commitment to complete within the first year

Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written;

Ability to interact respectfully with diverse clients, faculty, staff, students, and community partners;

Effective organizational skills, the ability to handle complex situations, and manage multiple tasks with competingpriorities;

Ability toidentifyissues and then develop and implement creative solutions;





Ability to work effectively in aninterprofessional/intraprofessional, team-oriented and diverse atmosphere;and

Ability to work independently.
