About Paradise Dock & Lift Paradise Dock & Lift Inc. is a growing Canadian manufacturer of premium aluminum docks and hydraulic boat lifts. Based in Vernon, British Columbia, we design, manufacture, sell, install, and service our products throughout Canada and the United States.
Position Overview This is a hands-on Controller role within a growing, owner-managed business. The successful candidate will be responsible for both day-to-day accounting and higher-level financial management.
The Controller will personally handle core accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, month-end closing, government remittances, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, and inventory accounting.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting Process payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and customer collections
Complete bank, credit card, loan, and general ledger reconciliations
Record journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records
Complete monthly and year-end close
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
Maintain the general ledger and review balance sheet accounts
Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital
Analyze financial performance against budgets and prior periods
Maintain appropriate internal controls and approval procedures
Manufacturing & Inventory Accounting Oversee inventory accounting and reconciliations
Review product costs, work-in-progress, manufacturing costs, and margins
Assist with job costing and product profitability analysis
Investigate inventory and costing discrepancies
Work with production and purchasing to improve inventory accuracy
Budgeting & Compliance Lead annual budgeting and forecasting
Prepare GST, PST, payroll, and other government remittances
Coordinate year-end financial statements and corporate tax requirements with external accountants
Prepare supporting schedules and documentation
Communicate with banks, accountants, insurers, and government agencies as required
Systems & Process Improvement Improve accounting procedures, controls, and workflows
Support and improve the use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Develop useful financial reports, dashboards, and KPIs
Document accounting processes and ensure procedures are followed
Assist ownership and management with financial and operational projects
Qualifications CPA designation in good standing
Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience
Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar role
Hands‑on experience with payroll, AP, AR, reconciliations, and month‑end closing
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting,
cash flow management, and internal controls
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience is strongly preferred
Manufacturing, inventory accounting, job costing, or product costing experience is strongly preferred
Experience in a small or owner‑managed business is an assetStrong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
High attention to detail and ability to work independently
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a practical accounting professional who takes ownership and follows issues through to completion.
They are equally comfortable processing payroll or a vendor invoice, reconciling an account, reviewing inventory costs, preparing financial statements, and providing management with meaningful financial analysis.
This position is best suited to someone who enjoys being directly involved in the accounting function rather than simply overseeing it.
