Job Title: Civil Design Manager
Position Overview
The Design Manager is responsible for leading and managing the design phase of civil engineering projects from initial concept through final design. This role ensures the design team remains accountable for quality, schedule, and deliverables while maintaining strong coordination with clients, internal teams, and regulatory agencies. The Design Manager works closely with the Project Manager to develop design intent and guide the project through a successful and efficient design process.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the design team throughout all phases of project development, establishing clear expectations, workflows, and accountability for schedules, deliverables, and quality standards
Coordinate and communicate with clients, local agencies, and external partners to ensure alignment on design intent, requirements, and project updates
Oversee the full design process from concept through completion, monitoring progress, maintaining schedules, and proactively addressing challenges that could impact project goals
Provide technical oversight and perform quality assurance reviews of drawings, calculations, and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with engineering standards
Organize and lead design coordination meetings,
document key decisions and action items, and ensure effective communication across all project stakeholders
Manage coordination between internal staff, subconsultants and other disciplines, ensuring design elements are integrated, conflicts are resolved early, and deliverables are completed in a timely manner
Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, and support the permitting and approval process as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Demonstrated experience completing civil engineering design projects and leading project teams
Solid communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Thorough understanding of design standards, regulatory requirements, and multi-discipline coordination
