EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Regular FT

COMPENSATION: $45.53/hour total , comprised of a $42.55/hour base rate plus a 7% market allowance
(CUPE 339 2026 PG 12)

LOCATION: In office

DAYS: Monday to Friday

HOURS: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM - On-call will be required from time to time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Fleet and the direction of the Lead Hand, the Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all City of Nelson vehicles and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Grade 12 or GED (General Equivalency Diploma).

Red Seal Certified as an Automotive Technician, Heavy Duty Technician, or Commercial Transport Technician.

Preferred Qualifications:

Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Program Certificate or working towards.





Valid Class 3 BC Drivers License with air brake endorsement or working towards.

1 year of recent experience in gas and electric welding, wire feed welding, hydraulics and operating heavy equipment.

1 years recent related experience with computerized diagnostic equipment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Ability to interact with other employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Ability to operate related equipment

Ability to work in a computerized environmentability to organize work

Familiarity with related municipal policies and procedures

Familiarity with City of Nelson/municipal and Worksafe BC safety procedures
