The Opportunity
Reporting to the Property Hub Manager, the Housing Officer plays a high-value operational role for the organization by having direct impact on multiple key performance measures and processes.
Qualifications
Must Have
Grade 12 or high school equivalent plus two years post-secondary training related to the position and three years' related experience, or an acceptable combination of training and experience.
Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies Act.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of desktop software including Microsoft Office.
Excellent organizational skills to monitor, track and follow-up a high volume of client accounts.
High level of motivation and the ability to work with little supervision.
Excellent judgment and strong communication skills to communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse tenant population and provide written reports and recommendations to the Property Hub Manager.
Ability to exercise tact and discretion when questioning and dealing with client inquiries, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
Ability to remain calm when provoked or when placed in stressful or emotional situations.
Nice to Have
Current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
Competency in Yardi Property Management software.
Knowledge of housing and social service program policies and procedures.
The Fine Print
An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.
This position requires a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Travel within the Cape Breton district is required.
Responsibilities
Build positive relationships with clients by listening to concerns, responding to questions and complaints, finding solutions, and escalating issues to the Property Hub Manager when needed.
Support applicants by sharing information about housing programs, benefits, eligibility requirements, and helping them navigate the application process.
Coordinate inspections and fire drills; assist in identifying social and health or safety issues and make referrals as required.
Show available units and support a smooth and timely move-in process; make recommendations to the Property Hub Manager regarding client transfers.
Perform administrative duties including maintaining up-to-date client and property records, tracking housing activity and performance, and ensuring all contact and communications with clients are appropriately documented.
Conduct home visits, telephone calls as required to support other client service-related departments.
Other duties as assigned including providing back up in the absence of the Property Hub Manager.

Salary: $25.60 - $31.60 hourly (PR 04)
Schedule: 35-hour work week
