Regional District of East Kootenay FOI & Records Management Technician Temporary
Nestled within the beautiful Rocky and Purcell Mountains, in the southeast corner of British Columbia, the East Kootenay region is a four-season destination. The region boasts unlimited year-round outdoor recreation including skiing, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, mountaineering, white-water rafting and snowmobiling. The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) serves over 60,000 permanent residents and approximately 25,000 to 30,000 seasonal residents. The region is diverse, home to several unincorporated communities, eight municipalities and four First Nations communities.
The RDEK is seeking a skilled FOI (Freedom of Information) & Records Management Technician to join our team under the supervision of the Corporate Officer. The role is responsible for imaging, preserving, and providing access to records designated for archiving and supporting the Records Management Specialist with the development of an Electronic Document Records Management System (EDRMS). This position is designated as the FOI Access Coordinator and provides specialized and technical clerical work related to processing access requests under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The Records Management Technician will also provide relief coverage for the Cranbrook office reception and front desk, as needed.
This position is based out of the Cranbrook, B.C. office and is expected to last approximately four months, ending on or around January 15, 2027, and may be shortened or extended as needed.
As the successful candidate you are:
Able to complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
Engage with fellow employees, the public and outside agencies in a courteous manner.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of both FOIPPA and Records Management.
Knowledge of cash management systems.
Maintain composure and find solutions when dealing with difficult customers.
Organize work schedule to meet deadlines and priorities.
Work safely.
Essential Qualifications:
One year Records Management Certificate (preferred); or, one year Office Administration Certificate.
One year records management or archivist experience (preferred); or, one year administrative experience.
Freedom of Information Fundamentals Course (LGMA preferred)
This is a temporary, full time (35 hours per week) Union position with an hourly rate of $32.47.
