Overview

Safeway’s Cashier position is a front‑end role where you greet customers, demonstrate superior customer service, and handle cash register payments. Full training is provided. This role is essential for building customer loyalty and ensuring a smooth shopping experience.

Experience

No previous experience required.

Key Responsibilities

- Uphold and comply with company procedures, standards, and policies in all situations.
- Greet customers politely and warmly.
- Demonstrate superior customer service in accordance with Safeway’s programs.
- Process cash register payments by cash, cheque, credit card, gift card, and debit.
- Wrap and place merchandise in bags or carts.
- Balance and reconcile cash at the end of the work shift.
- Maintain cleanliness of check stands.




- Stock various products in the check stand area.

- Ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Highly motivated and team oriented.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong customer service qualities.
- Works safely and responsibly.
- Available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be scheduled anytime on Sunday (Alberta only).

Physical Requirements

- Constant lifting of up to 10 pounds.
- Constant standing.
- Constant computer and point‑of‑sale system use.
- Frequent bending and twisting.
- Occasional lifting or carrying of 10‑40 lbs, including waist‑level and low‑level lifts.
- Occasional walking, squatting, pushing, or pulling.
