Step into a pivotal role as Legal Counsel with ASIRT in Alberta. This full time position in Calgary or Edmonton focuses on legal advice for police oversight investigations.
In this senior role, you will play an essential part in advising on criminal law matters related to police conduct. You will ensure legal compliance in investigations while maintaining ASIRT's integrity. This position requires a proactive approach to provide expert legal support and manage complex legal tasks related to investigations and judicial authorizations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide advice on policy development and investigative standards
• Assist in preparing legal documents for investigations
• Review methods and admissibility of evidence
• Conduct legal education sessions for staff
• Develop relationships with legal counterparts and community partners
Requirements:
• LL.B. or JD with a minimum of 8 years’ experience
• Active member of the Law Society of Alberta
• In-depth knowledge of police-related laws
• Proven competency in investigative legal processes
• Strong legal communication and writing skills
