Horizon Contracting Group

Full Time | Permanent | $65,000 - $85,000 | Langley, BC

From the Ground Up

Great projects start with great planning. At Horizon Contracting Group, our Preconstruction team plays an key role in turning opportunities into projects that are well planned, well priced, and set up for success.

We are looking for a Junior Estimator to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone who has started building their career in construction and is ready to develop their estimating skills in a hands‑on environment.

You might be a recent graduate with a couple of relevant co‑op terms under your belt, someone with a year or two of construction experience who wants to move into estimating, or an early‑career Estimator looking for the right team to grow with.

We're not expecting you to know everything. We are looking for someone with a solid foundation, a sharp eye for detail, strong problem‑solving skills, and a genuine interest in learning the business.

You’ll work closely with our Preconstruction Manager and experienced Estimators, gaining exposure to the full estimating process while gradually taking on more responsibility of your own.

What You'll Be Doing

Review and interpret construction drawings, tender documents, specifications, and scopes of work

Assist with quantity takeoffs and build project cost estimates

Gather, organize, and compare pricing from suppliers and subcontractors

Assist with applying labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor rates

Prepare quotations and bid documents

Complete drawing, scope, and calculation checks

Help identify project risks, gaps, exclusions, and cost considerations

Support the team in preparing accurate and competitive bids

Learn & Grow

Develop your knowledge of construction costs, materials, production rates, and subcontractor pricing

Learn Horizon's estimating systems, processes, and tools

Participate in estimate reviews and learn from experienced Estimators

Build your understanding of project budgets, job costing, and financial information

Take on increasing responsibility as your knowledge and confidence grow

Seek out feedback and continuously look for ways to improve

Communication & Coordination

Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to gather pricing and project information

Support client proposals and bid submissions

Participate in scope and pre‑bid meetings

Work closely with Project Managers, Operations, Finance, and the Preconstruction team

Gather feedback on completed bids and help incorporate learnings into future estimates

Project Handover

Assist with preparing estimates for project pass‑over meetings

Help communicate scope, pricing assumptions, and key considerations to the operations team

Maintain organized and accurate project records throughout the estimating process

Systems & Administration

Maintain estimating trackers, quote registries, schedules, and project files

Upload and organize estimates and supporting documentation

Keep pricing information and estimating tools current

Assist with pre‑qualification forms and other bid submissions

What You Bring
We're looking for someone who has started building their construction knowledge and is ready to take it to the next level.

Ideally, you bring:

A diploma, degree, or certificate in Construction Management, Estimating, Civil Engineering, Landscape Construction, or a related field

1–2 years of related construction or estimating experience

Co‑op, internship, apprenticeship, summer construction, or other relevant hands‑on experience will be considered

An interest in learning the estimating and preconstruction side of the industry

Strong math and analytical skills

The ability to read and understand construction drawings and technical information

Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work

Excellent organization and time management skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

A positive, team‑oriented attitude and a willingness to take ownership of your work

Landscape construction experience is an asset, but we are open to candidates with related construction experience who are excited to learn our industry.

Who You'll Be
You're curious. You like figuring things out. You notice when the numbers don't quite make sense and aren't afraid to dig into the details to find out why.

You're organized enough to keep track of the details, but practical enough to understand that construction doesn't always go exactly according to plan.

You enjoy working with people, you're comfortable asking questions, and you take feedback seriously. You're looking for an opportunity where you can learn from experienced people, contribute to real projects, and build a career in estimating.

Most importantly, you're someone we can invest in.

Your Future Team
You’ll report to our Preconstruction Manager and work alongside an experienced estimating team. You’ll learn by doing, with support and mentorship along the way.

You’ll also work closely with Project Managers, Operations, Finance, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients, giving you a well‑rounded understanding of how projects move from an initial opportunity through estimating, award, and handover.

At Horizon, we believe Strongest Together means sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and creating opportunities for people to grow.

Why Horizon?
At Horizon Contracting Group, we’re building more than landscapes and infrastructure. We’re building careers, relationships, and a team that people are proud to be part of.

What you can expect:

Market-competitive salary: $65,000 - $85,000 , based on experience

Full‑time, permanent, year‑round employment

RRSP matching after one year

Company bonus eligibility after one year

Three weeks paid vacation, prorated in your first year
