What You'll Do
As an Estimator, you will play a key role in the pursuit and successful delivery of infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Director of Estimating, you will prepare accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates that support JATEC's continued growth across telecommunications, underground utilities, electrical, and civil construction projects.
Responsibilities Include:
Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
Reviewing drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender documents to determine project requirements
Compiling and organizing tender submissions and supporting documentation
Soliciting, reviewing, and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
Identifying opportunities for cost savings, efficiencies, and value engineering
Assisting with the development of project schedules and execution plans during the bidding process
Conducting site visits and attending pre-bid meetings as required
Preparing pricing for change orders and additional work requests
Collaborating with Operations, Project Management, and Field Teams to support successful project execution
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within estimating processes
Performing other duties as required

Communicating with vendors, subcontractors, clients, and internal stakeholders regularly
Occasional travel for site visits and pre-bid meetings
Taking ownership of estimates and contributing directly to JATEC's growth and success

What You Bring
Required Qualifications
2-3 years of progressive construction estimating or project experience
Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and project delivery processes
Experience in telecommunications, shallow utilities, electrical, or civil construction
Strong analytical, organizational, and financial skills
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
Experience using ERP systems and estimating software
Strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving skills and initiative to learn and grow
Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development
Assets That Will Help You Stand Out
While not required, we'd love to hear from candidates who have:
Telecommunications construction experience
Civil Construction Engineering Technology education or certification
Construction Estimation certification
Project Management education, certification, or experience
Experience estimating underground utility infrastructure projects
Experience with value engineering and alternative construction methodologies
Experience working with public and private sector tender opportunities
