Position: Auxiliary Access & DaytimeSexual Assault Response Team (SART) Worker

Reports to: Clinic and Access Coordinator

Benchmark Classification: Adult, Youth and/or ChildWorker

Classification Grid: JJEP Grid 11 – Step 1

Hours:

This is an auxiliary positionwith no regular hours. Auxiliary workers cover sick days, vacations, leaves ofabsence or other temporary backfill.

Primary shifts during weekdays(9am-5pm), but over-night (5pm-9am) or weekend coverage may be needed for SARTonly.

Position Summary:
Auxiliary Access Line position provides support andinformation to all contacts on VSAC Access Line and email. The Worker assess’contacts for VSAC services including Sexual Assault Response Team (allgenders), counselling programs for all women, trans, two-spirit and genderdiverse persons who are survivors of sexualized violence and their supporters(all genders), and victim service program for all women, trans, two-spirit andgender diverse persons who are survivors of sexualized violence. The Workeralso provides referrals to other community resources where appropriate. Thisposition includes data management and file creation for client files.

Daytime SART position is responsible formonitoring the Sexual Assault Response Team pager and providing support,information and accompaniment to survivors (all genders) of recent sexualassault and their supporters. This position provides phone and in-personsupport to recent survivors of sexual assault at the hospital or VSAC clinic orpolice stations.

Job Responsibilities:
Under direction from the Clinicand Access Coordinator, the Access & SART Worker is responsible forthe following:

1. Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) coverage primarily during business hours, with some evening and weekend coverage when needed

Provide immediate support and response at the VictoriaSexual Assault Centre’s Clinic, the Victoria General Hospital and/or apolice station to recent survivors (all genders, 13+ years) of sexualassault

Liaise and consult with the Vancouver Island Crisis Line,Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNE), hospital staff, other professionals,Victim Service Workers, and the police (if involved)





Provide information on medical options and options forreporting to the police

Provides immediate phone support and information to callerswho have been affected by sexualized assault in the last thirty days.

Provides specific information regarding VSAC services andfollow-up information.

Maintains a supply of paperwork and resources needed for theposition.

Updates Access Worker or Clinic Coordinator on responses andsubmits contact paperwork in a timely manner.

2. Access coverage during businesshours

a. Provides immediate support andinformation to contacts to Access phone line or Access email and in-personcontacts who have been affected by sexualized abuse and sexualized assault.

b. Updatesclients about their status on waitlists.

c. Providesspecific information regarding VSAC services.

d. Conductsinitial screening and assessment for people wanting to access services.

e. Providesinformation and registers participants for services, updating waitlists, anddatabase information.

f. Makes internal file referralsto victim services and counsellors

i. Makes external referrals toappropriate community resources; maintains up-to-date knowledge of theseresources and may assist in updating community information as required

ii. Maintains volunteer pager andpaperwork including checking for completed paperwork (SART and phone contacts).Ensures drop-off and pick-up of volunteer pager.

3. File Management

a. Creates and updates clientrecords in database and creates client file documentation.

b. Maintains up-to-dateinformation in contact database (all contacts to Access Line or email).

c. Updates information receivedfrom Counsellors and Victim Services in client database.

d. Updates other spreadsheets asrequired.

4. Liaise with Internal andExternal Professionals.

a. Informs Coordinator ofVolunteers of information relevant to volunteers, or about volunteers.

b. UpdatesAccess & Clinic Coordinator, regarding contact issues or other relevantinformation about the program and informs the Direct Client Services Manager asneeded.

c. Liaisewith community professionals regarding resources and services.

d. Assistswith debriefing and support to volunteers as available.

e. Maintainsa skilled approach to liaising with other staff,



the public or with othersignificant community agencies and institutions.

5. Current Information on Trendsand Resources.

a. Maintains awareness of currentissues and trends in the field of sexualized violence

i. This may include an awarenessof local trends or news regarding issues around sexualized violence in localcommunity that have an impact on new and current clients.

b. Maintains awareness ofdiversity issues, in order to appropriately identify and respond to the needsof clients, staff and volunteers.

6. Includes awareness of culturalsafety and barriers to support for marginalized folks.

7. Other duties as directed by theClinic and Access Coordinator.

8. Longer Term Back-fillAdditional Duties

Access clerical duties, including management of statistics,contact summaries and other similar records.

May monitor/tally/enter data for statistical analysis at thedirection of the Clinic and Access Coordinator.

Updates monthly wait times.

Records group attendance in database.

Disseminates information on Access & SART schedulingwith community partners.

Liaise with Direct Client Service staff to receivestatistics in timely manner.

Supports Clinic Coordinator and Forensic Nurse Examinerswith clinic upkeep as needed.

Attends the Crisis Team Meetingto make internal file assignments.

9. Participates constructively asa member of the staff team.

10. Ensures work reflects themission, beliefs, values and goals of VSAC.

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
The position requires:

Sexual Assault Response Team training and experience is essential

Knowledge of sexualized assault/abuse, crisis line trainingand/or experience in the field

In-depth knowledge and demonstrated understanding of theissues surrounding sexualized violence

Basic knowledge of legal issues for survivors of sexualizedviolence.

Experience using database and spreadsheets

Job Skills and Abilities:
The position requires:

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-taskwith flexibility to adapt in unpredictable situations

Demonstrated ability to screen clients for service

Demonstrated crisis support skills

Strong problem-solving, decision making, critical thinkingand diplomacy skills with strong boundaries and self-awareness

Knowledge of community resources, including Ministry forChildren and Family Development

Proficient use of word processing programs, an ability towork with databases and spreadsheets.
