About the Role
As a Receiver, you’re a central player in keeping our store stocked and our inventory accurate. You’ll be responsible for receiving all inbound products, verifying it against documentation, completing paperwork with precision, and making sure inventory flows smoothly from the loading dock to the shelves.
Accuracy is everything in this role – errors at the receiving stage ripple through inventory counts, purchasing decisions, and customer orders. You’ll work closely with the freight team, Accounts Payable, and the purchasing team, and sales staff to keep communication clear and product moving efficiently.
What You’ll Be Doing
Receiving & Inventory Flow
Receiving all inbound product, verifying accuracy against packing slips – no inventory is to be received without a packing slip
Contacting couriers to obtain missing packing slips; forwarding vendor packing slip requests to the purchaser to complete
Sorting, unpacking, and maintaining the flow of inventory from receiving to store shelves
Scheduling third-party shipments and coordinating space for incoming product with the freight team and freight team manager
Completing all receiving paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
Managing Return to Vendor processes and communicating with vendors as necessary
Tracking and maintaining special orders with regular communication to the sales team
Ensuring accuracy of inbound and outbound inter-store transfers within your area of responsibility
Maintaining transparent, proactive communication with Accounts Payable to ensure all paperwork is processed on time
Working with other store teams on merchandise movement, delivery inquiries, and concerns
Collaborating with the freight team to coordinate space, timing, and flow of incoming product
Communicating discrepancies, damages, or missing documentation promptly to the relevant stakeholders
What We’re Looking For
Here’s what will set you up for success in this role:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills – sorting material, performing detail counts, and matching paperwork accurately are core to this role
Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills – you work with multiple teams and need to keep everyone informed
A proactive, problem-solving mindset – when documentation is missing or a shipment doesn’t add up, you know how to track down the answer
Ability to perform physical tasks involving stretching, bending, lifting, and carrying 25-50 pounds
Forklift certification is required within the first 3 months; existing certification or experience with forklifts and power pallet jacks is a strong asset
Prior retail and receiving experience is an asset
