CLASSIFICATION: MENTAL HEALTH LEISURE AIDE
DEPARTMENT: WELLNESS & RECOVERY CENTREPOSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUND
UNION AFFILIATION: OPSEU – HPD
STATUS: FULL-TIMEREASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENT
WAGE RATE: $31.74 - $35.15
Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Mental Health Leisure Aide works as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a range services for clients who have substance use and mental health issues. The Mental Health Leisure Aide’s primary responsibility is to plan, organize and implement leisure/recreation programming for individuals and groups. The Mental Health Leisure Aide will work with the clients/families and treatment team to actively help rehabilitate each client to achieve their maximum functional level through planned therapeutic programs. This position is initially targeted to work in the Wellness and Recovery Centre with the understanding that the Mental Health Leisure Aide is a member of the Mental Health and Addictions Department and as such may be assigned to another program as needed.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
Required

Diploma or Degree in the field of Leisure Studies/Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation or Kinesiology

Minimum of 2 years recent related experience working with addiction or mental health client population

CPR certification beneficial

Demonstrated knowledge of recovery philosophy and trauma informed care

Demonstrated ability to provide direction on a one-on one basis or in a group setting pertaining to leisure or recreation activities

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required,



with both the public and interdisciplinary team members

Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities and tasks and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical ability to do job duties as assigned; demonstrated knowledge of body mechanics to prevent musculoskeletal injuries

Demonstrated commitment to continuing education

Proven ability to adapt readily to change

Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, sound judgment, analytical thinking and initiative

Demonstrated computer software knowledge and experience including proficiency in Microsoft suite of products and database software

Ability to work all shifts

Possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, insurance coverage and personal vehicle - travel is required

Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
