School District No. 83 is presently seeking

Industrial Mechanic/Millwright

School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) invites qualified individuals to apply for a Temporary Industrial Mechanic/Millwright position at the District Education Support Centre. This CUPE union position offers rate of pay of $37.74 per hour working twenty-four (24) hours per week starting September 17, 2026, until June 30, 2027, or the return of incumbent, and/or services no longer required, whichever comes first.

The District
In the School District, we serve just over 6,700 students and 1200 staff across 26 schools operating through a variety of sites located throughout Shuswap Lake and North Okanagan. We are known for strong academic achievement, a thriving trades and careers program, and a rich culture of school athletics. The school district enjoys comprehensive Local Education Agreements with each of four First Nations bands. One elementary, one middle, and one secondary school offer French Immersion. Our Strategic Plan prioritizes a "students first" focus on success, organizational efficiency, and a culture of health and wellness as our key goals.

To provide trained Millwright services to the School District in the areas of repair and fabrication of parts and equipment as well as perform general labor and maintenance duties.

Duties and Responsibilities Include

Performs duties pertaining to the Millwright Trade as required.

Layout, Move, Repair, Assemble, Disassemble, Install New and Existing Industrial Heavy Equipment in accordance with WCB regulations. Dust Collectors, Compressors, Wood, Metal, Science & Auto shop related Equipment etc.

Performs Safety Checks on Tools and Equipment

Ensures that all Tools, Equipment and Safety Guards are in good working condition.

Modifies Equipment to meet the needs of the Instructional Program

Fabrication.



Welding, Cutting, Grinding, etc.

Research and Purchase of Tools, Parts, and Materials. Pick-up and Delivery

Provides Advise in Consultation with the I.E. Teachers, Purchasing Dept. and Manager of Facilities on Replacement of Equipment

Makes Minor Electronic and Electrical Repairs

Removes and Replaces Dull Cutting Equipment Blades i.e. Saw, Planer, Jointer, Shears, etc.

Sharpens and Conditions Hand Tools, Paper Cutters, etc.

Travels Through Out the School Dist. For Consult. Repair and P.M.

The above job description reflects the principal functions of the job. Other comparable or transient duties which are within the areas of knowledge and skills required by the job description may also be assigned.

Working Conditions
Work in the School Districts Industrial Education Shops & Maintenance Facility. Some outside work will be required.

Qualifications Required

Certificate as a journeyman as set out in the B.C. Apprenticeship Act for Proficiency as a Millwright-Industrial Mechanic T.Q. pursuant to the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualification Act.

Four years' relevant work experience as a tradesperson in maintenance within the specified trade.

Knowledge of all related mechanical test equipment and tools.

Working knowledge of gas and electric welding.

Demonstrated physical ability to perform assigned duties (including climbing ladders and scaffolds).

Valid B.C. Driver's License.

Proficiency in current Automotive, Woodworking and Metal shop tools maintenance and repair.
