Job Summary
TheDirector of Transportation provides strategic and operational leadership for transportation across a regional network. This role is accountable for optimizing cost-to-serve, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering reliable service performance while leading teams and managing carrier and fleet operations.

This role oversees a team of leaders, executes strategy at the regional level, and drives cross-functional results.

Key Responsibilities

Lead regional transportation strategy execution to optimize cost, service, and operational performance

Oversee fleet operations and third-party carrier relationships, including contract negotiation and performance management

Partner with Distribution Operations, Customer Service, Finance, HR, Legal, and Quality to drive aligned outcomes

Ensure compliance with all transportation regulations and company policies

Own and manage the regional transportation budget, identifying opportunities to improve cost-to-serve and financial performance

Drive implementation of national transportation initiatives and ensure alignment with customer delivery expectations





Establish and monitor KPIs related to cost, service, and network performance

Lead and develop a team of managers and individual contributors, fostering a high-performance, engaged culture

Act as an escalation point for complex operational issues impacting service, cost, or delivery performance

Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans and ensure successful execution across the region

Travel up to 20%

Qualifications
Minimum

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related field

10+ years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, or distribution, including leadership experience

Proven experience managing transportation operations, carriers, and cost-to-serve performance

Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and driving cost efficiency

Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives

Preferred

Post-graduate certification (e.g., CITT)

Experience in regulated industries (e.g., pharmaceutical distribution)

Direct-to-store delivery (DSD) or last-mile transportation experience

Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and routing optimization tools

Experience in fleet management and carrier sourcing

Bilingual (English/French) an asset.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position
$132,900 - $221,500
