Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reports to the Sub-Section Supervisor Molecular Diagnostics or designate. In accordance with established policies, plans and procedures, this technologist performs special procedures/ techniques for the majority of the time, including established and/ or new clinical genetic or molecular procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or Molecular Genetics. Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways,



or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Two years recent related experience.

Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of computer systems related to the Laboratory.

Knowledge and technical competence to perform procedures using molecular techniques.

Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and to use related software.

Demonstrated familiarity with Internet web sites specific to Molecular Biology.

Ability to communicate effectively with others including staff, patients and medical staff.

Demonstrated problem solving, organizational and decision-making skills.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Education, Training and ExperienceBachelor of Science degree in Biology or Molecular Genetics, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), or successful completion of a recognized competency assessment examination through a pathway recognized by the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR). Two (2) years recent related experience.Please Note: The qualifications listed in this posting are currently being updated to reflect recent changes related to CAMLPR certification requirements.
