**Job Title: General Foreman**
**Job Description**
The General Foreman oversees day-to-day operations on commercial construction sites, acting as the primary point of contact between construction workers and site supervision.
This role coordinates daily tasks, creates and manages worker schedules, and ensures high-quality workmanship across all work areas.
The successful candidate will lead a portion of a large tenant improvement project, supervising employees and subtrades while also performing hands-on carpentry and construction work.
While reporting to the site superintendent, the General Foreman is expected to independently run smaller projects and maintain a safe, organized, and efficient job site.
**Responsibilities**
Coordinate and assign daily tasks to crew members, ensuring all workers understand their responsibilities and work areas.
Create, manage, and adjust schedules for employees and subtrades to keep the project on track and meet deadlines.
Act as the main point of contact between construction workers and site supervision, communicating expectations, changes, and progress clearly.
Oversee the quality of work on site, ensuring that construction standards, specifications, and finishing details are consistently met.
Lead and supervise a portion of a large tenant improvement project, ensuring subtrades are meeting expectations and delivering work on time.
Conduct daily Morning Toolbox Talks from 7:00am to 7:15am, reviewing tasks, safe work procedures, quality requirements, subtrade work areas, and expected deliveries.
Discuss and monitor daily and weekly progress expectations, measuring performance against project timelines.
Ensure completion of Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) for applicable tasks and work areas.
Oversee completion of permits such as ground disturbance, hot work, and other required site permits.
Manage equipment inspections and maintenance logs to ensure tools and machinery are secure and in good working order.
Maintain site trailer cleanliness, organize sea cans, and promote clean, orderly work areas, setting a high standard for the entire site.
Communicate coffee and lunch break times clearly, ensuring workers know when to be in the trailer and when to return to work.
Provide drawing details and information related to specific work areas in conjunction with the site superintendent.
Notify workers of changes to scope and/or drawings, ensuring all team members understand updated requirements and plans.
Support and promote safe work practices at all times, ensuring workers use appropriate PPE and follow safety procedures.
**Essential Skills**
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a lead hand or foreman role in construction.
Strong construction management skills with proven experience overseeing crews and coordinating site activities.
Hands-on carpentry experience, including interior construction and finishing work.
Commercial construction experience, particularly with tenant improvement projects.
Ability to run schedules and coordinate staff and subtrades effectively.
Experience using fall protection (Fall Pro), elevated work platforms (EWP), and CSTS training.
Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office and Excel.
Journeyman carpenter qualification.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and communicate relevant details to the crew.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain documentation such as permits, FLHAs, and equipment logs.
Clear communication skills for leading toolbox talks and conveying expectations to workers and subtrades.

**Work Environment**
The role is primarily based on commercial construction sites with a typical schedule of Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm, with the possibility of finishing at 3:00pm on Fridays.
Most work occurs on weekday day shifts, though some projects, particularly tenant improvement work, may require occasional overnight shifts.
Workers are expected to be fully prepared for work by 7:00am, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment including boots, hard hat, vest, gloves, and safety glasses.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edmonton, AB.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $45.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
