West Point Grey Academy is seeking a full time Facilities Technician with practical, hands‑on maintenance experience and basic trades skills to join our team. This role is eligible for the school's generous benefits package.

The Impact of This Role

School facilities are well maintained, safe, and functional

Maintenance issues are identified and addressed quickly

Indoor and outdoor spaces remain clean, organized, and ready for use

Equipment and systems continue to operate reliably with minimal disruption

General Maintenance & Repairs

Completing routine maintenance and minor repair tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, hardware replacement, and equipment upkeep

Using hand and power tools safely and appropriately to complete repairs and maintenance tasks

Responding to service requests and completing work orders accurately and on time

Assessing maintenance issues, troubleshooting possible causes, and determining when to repair, elevate, or involve a contractor

Supporting inventory and organization of tools, parts, and materials

Facilities & Grounds Support (As Needed)

Inspecting facilities for wear, damage, or safety concerns and taking appropriate action

Assisting with groundskeeping, including outdoor maintenance and site upkeep

Supporting furniture moves and general campus readiness

Pool & Fitness Facilities Support (As Needed)

Assisting with routine pool maintenance tasks, including cleaning, monitoring, and basic equipment checks

Supporting basic pool chemistry maintenance, including routine testing, recording results, and escalating any concerns

Supporting the upkeep of gymnasium, fitness, and change room spaces





Reporting any pool or equipment issues to the Facilities team

Emergency & Team Support

Reporting urgent maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, equipment failure) in a timely manner

Working collaboratively with team members and external contractors when required

About You

Has practical experience with basic trades or general maintenance work, whether through employment, training, apprenticeship exposure, or equivalent hands‑on experience

Is comfortable using hand and power tools and can complete minor repairs independently and safely

Understands their own skill level and knows when to ask for support, elevate an issue, or involve a qualified tradesperson

Works reliably and safely, and takes pride in doing quality work

Communicates clearly and works well with others

Is physically able to perform manual work, including lifting and outdoor tasks

Additional Details

Experience in facilities, maintenance, construction, building operations, or a trade‑related environment is strongly preferred

Foundational knowledge of one or more trade areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, mechanical systems, or grounds maintenance is an asset

Valid driver's license is an asset

First Aid/WHMIS certification is an asset

Pool operator experience or certification is an asset, but not required

A criminal record check will be required (initiated by WPGA)

Based on a 40‑hour work week

This is a manual labour position, with heavy lifting required
