The role of Project Engineer is to ensure the success of the project from the purchase order stage through to unit completion. Success requires the package to be ready to deliver on time and within budget without compromising quality and excellence in customer service. This is a technical role where Project Managers partner with the Design, Purchasing, Fabrication, and all other cross-functional teams to ensure the success of the project.
What You Will Do
Responsible for full project flow and management as per Project Management processes, including but not limited to project initiation, kick off, execution, monitoring & controls, delivery and job close
Review and understand client specifications as related to projects, ensuring built projects are reflective of agreed deliverables
Sizing and selection of system components
Development of P&ID;’s and Layout drawings with the Project Designer
Development of Bill of Materials
Interacting with the Project Designer to produce all assembly and fabrication drawings
Check and sign all drawings, ensuring their accuracy and completeness
Maintenance of your Engineering and Design schedule
Issue change orders and revised schedule for customer-requested scope changes
Monitor package progress in the shop during the weekly package walk-through
Liaise with shop staff to ensure accuracy/quality of final product
Assist the Service Department for unit commissioning
Successfully complete projects on budget and on time
Lead project kickoff, shop kickoff and model review meetings
Manage multiple domestic and/or international projects
Maintain and develop relationships with clients on specific projects
Communicate with Document Control ensuring that all Project operating, and maintenance manuals are prepared and issued to the customer as per schedule
Clearly communicate project deliverables (including tasks, deadlines, risks, etc.), ensuring adequate resources are assigned to deliverables and proactively identify and communicate potential roadblocks with various project personnel for resolution
Professionally and proactively manage the reporting of project conflicts/challenges/learnings as they arise
Assist with mentoring new Project Managers and Designers
Education, Skills and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technologist
Registered as an EIT, P.L. (Eng) or P.Eng with APEGA, an asset
5 to 10 years’ experience in gas compression or rotary equipment fabrication environment
Strong Mechanical Aptitude
Hands-on cooperative approach with design and fabrication
Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint) is required
Excellent communication skills that promote long-term mutually beneficial relationships with all stakeholders.
Exceptional ability to positively influence, negotiate and manage conflict
