Position: Trades Training and Career Development Teacher Coordinator (1.0 FTE)

Position Description
The Trades Training and Career Development Teacher Coordinator is a member of the District Career Development Team in a Position of Special Responsibility working under the direction of the Director of Instruction, Innovative Learning or designate. The Trades Training and Career Development Teacher Coordinator works collaboratively with district and school teams, post-secondary institutions, provincial partners, and community employers to support, develop, and maintain equitable, inclusive, and effective trades training and dual credit programming in School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake).

A Position of Special Responsibility allowance will be assigned to this position in accordance with the applicable provisions of the KLTF/SD8 Collective Agreement.

General Duties And Responsibilities Of a District Coordinator

Facilitate the goals and strategies of the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning and the District Strategic Plan for Career Development

From an equity-focused lens, work to ensure students have access to trades training

Liaise with school teams, post-secondary partners, provincial affiliates, and local employers and industry to secure trades training opportunities for students

Facilitate family engagement evenings and trades training information sessions to support participation in trades training programs

Coordinate and support administrative processes related to Youth Train in Trades (YTT) and Trades Sampler applications, intake, and selection procedures

Work with school teams and Skilled Trades BC to analyze and report data, ensure audit compliance, and support student success through the 1701 process, graduation planning, and academic reviews

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

Supporting, developing, maintaining, and promoting a comprehensive trades training pathway program to school teams, students, and families in the Nelson area

Working as a program and curriculum team leader with school teams, including counsellors

Hosting, facilitating, or supporting family engagement evenings, school events, career fairs, and information/orientation sessions at Selkirk College

Developing and maintaining positive post-secondary,



employer, industry, and community partnerships

Developing and maintaining the district database of industry employers

Liaising with Skilled Trades BC and provincial career program partners

Chairing and coordinating bi-annual Trades Advisory Committee meetings

Supporting student participation, progress monitoring, and communication processes for Trades Training programs, including Youth Train in Trades, Youth Work in Trades, and Trades Sampler

Under the direction of the Director of Instruction, assisting in the development of an Annual Trades Training and Career Development Plan aligned with the program budget

Supporting application management, intake administration, and selection committee processes for Youth Train in Trades (YTT) and Trades Sampler

Meeting and liaising with school teams, students, families, local employers, industry, and post-secondary partners

Supporting audit processes and efficient student tracking, including database entry and Skilled Trades BC reporting

Supporting inclusive practices through an equity-focused lens to ensure students have access to trades training programs and pathways

Itinerant classroom teaching duties, both in the fall and winter semesters, as per the District’s requirement, including the Trades Sampler program, at any secondary schools.

MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Valid British Columbia Teaching Certificate;

University teaching major (or equivalent) directly related to the trades training position and five years of successful school-based teaching which includes a minimum of two years classroom experience in a career and trades program;

Coursework or graduate studies related to career development, trades training, educational leadership, or curriculum development;

Experience supporting trades training, Youth Train in Trades, Youth Work in Trades, Work Experience, and/or apprenticeship pathway programs;

Red Seal certification and related industry experience;

Demonstrated leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills;





Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school teams, post-secondary institutions, employers, and community partners;

Possession of a current valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License.

Schedule
Minimum work schedule is from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Due to district travel, presentations, meetings, and work commitments, schedule adjustments will arise and will be determined by the Director of Instruction or designate. Travel throughout the district is required.

Reporting Structure
The Trades Training and Career Development Teacher Coordinator reports to the Director of Instructon, Innovative Learning.

Salary Range; $68,589 - $114,833 per year, in accordance with the current SD8-Kootenay Lake / KLTF Collective Agreement. Placement on the salary grid is based on qualifications and years of teaching experience as evaluated by the BC Teacher Qualification Service (TQS).

Job Description & Requirements
Applicants must be certified in British Columbia with a Professional Teaching Certificate, or be eligible for certification by the start date of the assignment.
