Position: Working Lead Hand - Mine Shovel Maintenance
Location: CNRL Horizon – Pressure and Vac
Schedule: 14 on/14 off (Averaging Agreement – Compressed Work Schedule)
Compensation Details Vacation pay at 6% - paid out bi-weekly upon start date

Role Summary The Lead Hand position holds responsibility for overseeing the on-shift operation of the assigned site, ensuring that all employees meet and surpass performance and safety standards. Reporting directly to the Supervisor, the Lead Hand organizes and supervises work and workers to achieve optimal results in the minute-by-minute operation of the site.
The mining shovel maintenance Working Lead Hand is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the mining shovels. This position involves a wide array of physical labour, along with confined spaces. The Working Lead Hand must also clean, maintain all equipment associated with the role, as well as company policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities Oversee the activities for workers, such as equipment operators, machine operators, and laborers while actively working with them as much as possible.
Maintain physical asset security and condition.




Assign work to employees, based on job requirements, special job site conditions, and available equipment, material, and worker qualifications.
Conduct and/or attend worker line-up and safety meetings. Ability to speak in an open form in front of a large audience.
Oversee and approve Job Hazard assessments (JHA) and work progress to verify conformance to safety standards and personal work.
Conduct training for reporting personnel.
Demonstrate and explain use of equipment as required.
Evaluate operators on equipment used as required.
Conduct performance evaluations for employees.
Analyze organizational operating and safety practices and procedures.
Develop protected work assignment plans as necessary.
Inspect project operations and site to determine specification compliance.
Maintain production and work records.
Monitor worker performance.
Operate all assigned equipment in a safe and effective manner
Hand washing mining shovel car body, rev frame, boom and housing (including confined space crawling, working in grease and oil environment), with use of air actuated tool, hand tools and various cleaning supplies to get areas ready for inspections or repairs.
Operate steam truck for steaming and pressure washing various components of mining shovels, mobile equipment, vehicles and miscellaneous components
Operate support equipment such as aerial work platform, forklift, telehandler, skid steers, tractors and light vehicles.
Must comply with work order system to include interpreting work orders, performing work requested and completing work orders per instruction.
Monitor fluid levels and status of various equipment including mobile equipment, generators, light towers, heaters and notify supervisor when attention to equipment is needed.
Ensure that all equipment are parked/staged and plugged-in, in assigned areas when not in use.
Maintain inventory levels of consumables, PPE and various supplies
Perform housekeeping duties on the entire maintenance pad, buildings and field specific areas




Monitor the level and condition of disposal bins (report when emptying service is required in a proactive approach)
Perform overall caretaking duties of the work area including shoveling snow and sanding as needed
Ensure that all entrances to buildings, walkways and designated travel paths are free from hazards
Cleaning warehouses.
Assist other personnel & contractors as needed for various laboring duties.
Driving in the mine, for completing work or delivering supplies
Complete and document a pre-operational check on assigned equipment
Grease equipment as necessary
Ensure equipment has proper safety equipment in place
Must have the ability to work well independently while maintaining a high level of safety, respect and great communication skills
Maintain a cooperative working relationship with clients and other employees
Participate in Job Hazard Assessments, Field Level Risk Assessments, and tool box meetings
Perform other duties as assigned such as general labor.
Education & Experience Job requirements are listed below: Valid Class 5 with Air Brakes Endorsement is required (Class 3 Driver’s License would be an asset)
Clean 5-year Driver Abstract obtained within 30 days of starting work is required

CSO (Common Safety Orientation) Certification is required
WHMIS 2015 Certification is required (Completed within the last 3 years)
Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
Safety conscious attitude
Must be willing to work in fluctuating climates (hot, cold, wet) and environmental conditions
Must be comfortable working in close proximity to water
Ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol test and Fit for Duty test Applicants are required to be clean shaven for testing and beyond
