Mechanical Engineer – Stationary Equipment (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta)
VTEK is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specialized in stationary equipment to support our projects in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, in Fort Saskatchewan. You will play a key role in the design, specification, and verification of pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers, ensuring the quality and compliance of all deliverables.

Responsibilities Design, specify, and verify stationary equipment: pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, towers, drums, and fired heaters
Perform and validate design calculations to ASME Section VIII (Div. 1 and 2), API 650/653, TEMA, and CSA B51
Prepare datasheets, specifications, and tender documents, and technically evaluate fabricator bids
Ensure regulatory compliance of equipment and coordinate drawing registration with ABSA
Conduct design reviews, fabrication surveillance, and shop inspections at vendor facilities
Support integrity assessments, fitness-for-service (FFS) evaluations, and modifications to existing plant equipment
Coordinate with process, piping, structural, and instrumentation disciplines to deliver integrated engineering packages
Resolve technical issues during project reviews and through construction and commissioning
Support business development through technical expertise, estimates, and presentations
Supervise technicians, designers, and junior staff assigned to projects
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
APEGA member (or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta)
8 to 15 years of mechanical engineering experience, including significant exposure to stationary equipment (refining, petrochemical, gas, or mining)
Strong command of applicable codes and standards: ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, API 510/570/650/653/660, TEMA, CSA B51, and ABSA requirements
Working knowledge of design and analysis software (PV Elite or Compress, Caesar II, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Navisworks)
Excellent communication skills in English; French is an asset
Based in the Edmonton area or willing to relocate; available for site and vendor shop visits
Rigor, autonomy, and ability to manage multiple priorities
