Join John Abbott College as an Indigenous Student Advisor, dedicated to fostering the success of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students through academic and cultural support. This permanent, full-time position aims to enhance student transition and retention within a supportive setting.
The Indigenous Student Advisor will work directly under the Dean of Indigenous Education, focusing on promoting academic achievement and inclusion for Indigenous students. Responsibilities include developing and evaluating support programs, writing funding proposals, and engaging with community outreach. This impactful role requires a nuanced understanding of Indigenous communities and direct experience working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement programs for Indigenous student support
• Manage budget and write funding proposals
• Liaise with various college departments to advocate for students
• Organize workshops and cultural events for campus engagement
• Provide academic and psychosocial support to students
Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
• Indigenous candidate with lived community experience
• Direct experience with Indigenous students and communities
• Knowledge of Indigenous teaching and learning practices
• Strong communication skills in English; French an asset
