Mortgage Underwriter (RECA Licensed)
Benchmark Mortgages | St. Albert (Hybrid) | Full-time (Mon–Fri, 8:30–4:30)
Before we get excited: licensing is non-negotiable
You must have an active Alberta Mortgage Broker license (RECA) in good standing. If you do not currently hold your RECA license, we will not consider your application.
Come for the files. Stay for the team.
We’re Benchmark Mortgages: a tight-knit, upbeat crew that genuinely likes working together. We move fast, support each other, and keep things warm and human while holding a high bar for quality.
If you love the underwriting side of mortgages and want to focus on doing great work (not lead gen, not marketing, not “build your own book”), you’ll feel right at home here.
The opportunity (serious work, great environment)
We’re hiring a Mortgage Underwriter who’s detail-driven, proactive, and calm under pressure. You’ll be the person who keeps deals clean, compliant, and moving from application to funded, while working closely with our brokers and partners.
Hybrid work is built in, and we do like seeing each other in the office too. Think team lunches, quick check-ins, and the kind of workplace where people actually have each other’s backs.
Your day-to-day (key responsibilities)
Underwrite and review mortgage applications: income, credit, assets, liabilities, supporting docs
Structure deals across purchases, renewals/transfers, refinances, equity take-outs, rentals, and more complex scenarios
Build strong lender submissions that are complete, accurate, and positioned for approval
Track conditions and commitments and guide the file through signing and next steps
Own the file flow from submission to funding, staying ahead of deadlines and key dates
Coordinate partners (lenders, BDMs, realtors, appraisers,
lawyers, insurers) to keep things moving smoothly
Problem-solve early when something feels off, and collaborate quickly on solutions
Keep files audit-ready and compliant with RECA, AMBA, FINTRAC, and federal requirements
Support occasional post-funding requests like documentation follow-up or servicing changes
