What You'll Do

Plan, organize and lead activities for children 0 to 12 years of age to meet developmental needs.

Apply and maintain pedagogical practices of the YMCA, Early Learning and Child Development guidelines, and Ministry of Education curriculum; ensure compliance by staff on site.

Comply with all regulatory items per the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), YMCA, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, and other relevant bodies.

Maintain health and safety of children at all times, addressing potential hazards with preventive plans.

Complete required documentation of children’s development and activities, including administrative tasks assigned to the role.

Assist with children’s bathroom routines, changing soiled clothing or diapers, and participating in snack/mealtimes.

Liaise with parents, school personnel, and community contacts.

Provide input to performance reviews of assistants, where applicable.

Participate in Association-wide events and attend monthly meetings and professional learning sessions.





Utilize appropriate behaviour guidance techniques in all interactions with children.

Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings and late afternoons; hours may fluctuate to meet operational needs.

Set up equipment and move within shared spaces in community schools as required.

Perform frequent light to medium physical effort, including lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

Work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity, or cold.

What You'll Bring

Completion of a degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education.

Membership in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators.

Minimum 6 months of experience working with children (paid work, volunteering, placements, or a combination).

Familiarity with developmental needs of children aged 0 to 12 years.

Robust interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport with children, families, staff/volunteers, and community partners.

Strong proficiency in spoken and written English to communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues, and to maintain accurate documentation and records.

Working computer knowledge.

18 years of age or older.

Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certification (Level C).

Current and satisfactory Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

May be required to travel.
