Guelph Family Health Team is looking for a Senior Bookkeeper (0.6 FTE Part time Contract)
Hourly Rate: $35 – $37
Reports to: Director, Finance
About Us : The Guelph Family Health Team is a not-for-profit, interdisciplinary primary care organization providing comprehensive, team-based care to the community of Guelph and surrounding areas. Our team works collaboratively to improve patient access, health outcomes, and system sustainability through innovative and integrated primary care services.
Position Summary : The Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for the full-cycle accounting and day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role ensures accurate financial records, timely reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. The Senior Bookkeeper works collaboratively with leadership to support financial transparency, budget monitoring, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities : Full-Cycle Accounting
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
Prepare and process payroll
Reconcile bank, credit card, and general ledger accounts monthly
Maintain and reconcile sub-ledgers
Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate financial records
Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes
Prepare monthly financial statements and variance reports
Assist with budget preparation and monitoring
Support external audits and provide required documentation
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standardsi>
Maintain internal controls and financial policies
Cash Flow & Banking
Monitor cash flow and forecast short-term needs
Manage banking relationships and transactions
Systems & Process Improvement
Maintain accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or equivalent)
Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and accuracy
Train and support junior finance staff as required
Qualifications : Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of progressive bookkeeping/accounting experience
Experience with full-cycle accounting
Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Experience in healthcare, primary care, or not-for-profit sector preferred
Core Competencies : High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Discretion and ability to handle confidential information
