About the Role
We're looking for an Apprentice Carpenter to join our Grande Prairie team. This is a hands-on, field-based role where you'll work alongside experienced journeymen and foremen on real commercial projects - learning the trade, building your skills, and establishing a career path that can take you all the way to Journeyman and beyond. At Atkinson Construction, we believe in growing from within, and this role is the first step in a long-term career with an emerging and expanding general contractor servicing communities across Western Canada.

Your Responsibilities
As an Apprentice Carpenter at Atkinson Construction, you'll be an active member of the site crew - contributing to daily progress, maintaining a safe and organized worksite,
and developing your skills under the guidance of experienced tradespeople. Key responsibilities include:
Support daily site operations and contribute to project progress, quality, and deadlines
Assist with wood framing, interior and exterior finishing, concrete formwork, and general carpentry tasks under the direction of a Journeyman or Foreman
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times in accordance with ACL and OHS standards
Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and orientations; assist with safety documentation as requiredMonitor site conditions and communicate issues, hazards, or material needs to your supervisor
Work collaboratively with the crew, subcontractors, and site leadership to achieve daily and project goals
Operate tools and equipment safely; request training if unsure of proper operation
Take initiative, ask questions, and embrace every opportunity to learn
Skills & Traits We're Looking For
Enrolled in or eligible for a carpentry apprenticeship program (1st-3rd year preferred)
Basic understanding of carpentry tools, materials, and construction site practices
Willingness to learn wood framing, finishing, formwork, and other commercial carpentry scopes
Physically capable of performing the demands of site work in varying weather conditions
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and eagerness to grow within the trade
Ability to take direction, work as part of a team, and communicate clearly
Valid driver's license (driver's abstract required if operating ACL vehicles)
Commitment to safety — you take it seriously, always
