Your role as a Senior Credit Specialist:
The Senior Credit Specialist is responsible for contributing to the profitable growth and quality of the Meridian OneCap portfolio by assisting in the administration of the Commercial Loan portfolio within the framework of the approved credit management policies as set by the Board, to ensure the loan assets represent acceptable risk and return to Meridian OneCap Credit Corp. (“OneCap”).
The Senior Credit Specialist must have an in‑depth knowledge of retail equipment finance lending practices and procedures, as well as an awareness of business trends. A solid knowledge of and experience in financial statement analysis and accounting principles and policies is a requirement. The incumbent must possess effective communication skills, both written and oral and must be experienced in the administration of credit requests. The incumbent needs to be a highly organized, analytical and a logical person.
The incumbent must have experience and knowledge in segmented industries such as construction, transportation, materials handling, others.
Ability to interpret and assess commercial and consumer credit bureaus.
Must be experienced with financial statement analysis and exhibit ability to identify financial risks.
What you’ll do:
Providing prompt and sound recommendations in the analysis and presentation of credit proposals, summaries and annual reviews for the Retail business segment.
In tandem with the other Credit officers in a deal queue environment, contribute to established OneCap service level agreements (SLA) by providing sound, consistent and timely credit decisions in support of mid‑ticket underwriting needs and credit turnaround SLAs.
Daily tasks include the efficient adjudication and approval – and/or timely recommendation to the Senior Manager, of all mid‑ticket credit applications > $150,000 and be able to underwrite/adjudicate larger mid‑ticket transactions with exposure in excess of $1 MM including the setting of maximum credit approval thresholds for customers while adhering to daily turnaround SLAs.
Ensuring the timely analysis, structuring and presentation of credit proposals.
Exercise sound and consistent underwriting practices.
What you can bring to this Role:
Minimum 5 years of experience in Commercial Credit underwriting in an equipment finance environment, combined with relevant post‑secondary education with an emphasis on business and finance.
The individual must have experience in underwriting mid credit requests in segmented industries including construction, transportation, materials handling, others.
The individual must be able to review, assess, analyse and spread financial statements and exhibit an ability to identify financial risks and make and/or provide sound and timely credit decisions/recommendations.
The individual must have superior risk assessment skills and a strong understanding of commercial business structures and a sound knowledge of the equipment finance industry.
Sound understanding of retail commercial lending security documentation, including collection/work‑out techniques and remedies.
Superior credit skills.
Working knowledge of commercial credit, lease/loan and inventory/floorplan finance products within the framework of the Personal Property Security Act (PPSA) and Quebec Civil Code.
Thorough knowledge of commercial account operating procedures and banking services.
Ability to and experience in assessing commercial and consumer credit bureaus, PPSA search results and name verification records.
Must be able to work in a team and/or independently.
Demonstrates being highly organized, analytical and logical.
Requires experience in spreading financial statements in Moody’s MFA (CreditLens) and utilizing TValue.
Experience in floorplan financing including a thorough knowledge and understanding of required documentation in support of dealer wholesale floorplan business risk considered an asset.
Must possess effective communication skills, both written and oral in the administration of credit, complex lease/loan documentation (e.g. security agreements) and security provision requirements.
Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
Comfort learning and adopting new digital tools, with an openness to using AI‑enabled technology to enhance productivity, accuracy, and the Member experience.

Salary Range:
CAD $68,800-103,000
Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range. Your recruiter will share more information about our total rewards package during the hiring process.
Office Location: Toronto or Montreal Corporate Offices. This is a hybrid opportunity.
