Insures administration, management, and clinical services of the Surgery Department are in compliance with certification and accreditation standards, and in accordance with Russell Regional Hospital Surgery Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications
Education:

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas. Advanced courses in nursing administration and surgery techniques preferred. Ability to speak, write, and understand English.

Experience:

At least two years of previous experience working in the surgery area. Some prior supervisory experience preferred. Must have the ability to maintain patient and Hospital confidentiality.

Job Knowledge:

Ability to communicate with persons of various backgrounds in a tactful, courteous manner. Must have comprehensive, timely knowledge of surgical nursing theory and practice and be able to incorporate such knowledge in all conditions varying from the usual to the extraordinary and emergency. Must maintain CPR certification on an annual basis. Subject to call, weekend, and holiday work.

Essential Job Functions
Ability to insure that Russell Regional Hospital Surgery Department complies with all certification, accreditation, and licensing standards.

Ability to develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures and interpret them to personnel, patients, medical staff and the public.

Ability to develop annual budget, anticipating needs, trends and staffing requirements.

Ability to hire, orient, evaluate,



and discipline all departmental personnel in accordance with Russell Regional Hospital Personnel Policies and Procedures.

Ability to maintain accurate records, reports and pertinent statistical data regarding services provided and performs a continual needs analysis and evaluation of the Surgery Department.

Ability to develop and implement an ongoing quality assurance program for the Surgery Department and Recovery Room under the supervision of the Director of Nursing.

Ability to supervise Surgery and recovery room personnel, insuring that they provide patient care and treatment according to Hospital Surgery Policies and Procedures.

Ability to maintain correct and continuous identification of all patients.

Ability to supervise charting of patient record.

Ability to obtain accurate consents and releases.

Ability to teach and instruct patients and family in patient care.

Ability to make recommendations to the Director of Nursing regarding the purchase of new equipment as necessary to maintain a high level of care.

Ability to insure that equipment is maintained in optimum working condition.

Ability to attend Nursing Management Meetings and other meetings as requested, developing and delivering in-service education as assigned.

Ability to perform duties of O.R. Scrub/Circulating Registered Nurse Job Description.

Evaluation regarding competency relative to ages of patients treated.

Ability to adhere to established Personnel Policies and Procedures.
