Duties
The Housing Projects and Maintenance Technician is part of the technical team responsible for inspections, maintenance coordination, and the overall upkeep of the housing portfolio.Duties of the position includes, but is not limited to:
Identify, assess and document repair and maintenance requirements for CFHA housing units.
Plan, organize and implement repair and maintenance work on CFHA housing units through service providers. This would include the preparation of repair and maintenance work orders.
Oversee and confirm work/repair completion in accordance with the terms of the contract, specifications, technical codes and standards.
Conduct responsive and preventive repair and maintenance inspections of housing units and equipment/systems.
Provide customer services that includes responding to CFHA housing unit service requests, elaborating repair and maintenance plans/schedules on the housing units.
Provide ongoing instruction, information and guidance to service providers, team members, and housing unit occupants.
Assess and perform minor repair/installation and/or temporary fixes/solutions. This would include identifying and utilizing materials and tools required to complete the repairs.
Prepare technical documentation and plans, provide coordination, collaboration and support for capital asset project design, development and implementation through external service providers.
Maintain ongoing assessment and provide technical inputs with respect to housing unit operations, repairs, life cycle replacement, betterment projects and activities.

As a Special Operating Agency reporting to the Department of National Defence (DND), CFHA contributes to the quality of life of CAF members and their families through the provision of housing services, and through the responsible and sustainable management of the Department's housing infrastructure. We are a team of 380 federal public servants who work hard to meet the needs of the Canadian Armed Forces families living in DND housing. We have close to 230 employees at our Housing Services Centers across Canada and 150 employees at our Head Office in Ottawa.CFHA Trenton is a dynamic team of 13 full-time employees. We work together to provide housing services to approximately 550 Canadian Forces families. As a CFHA employee, you will play an important role in the implementation of housing services while working with a dedicated team.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one English Essential position on a permanent basis at the CFHA Trenton (ON) location. A pool will be established and may be used to staff future positions at the CFHA Trenton location, including both permanent and temporary positions.
Positions to be filled

Recent and acceptable driver’s abstract.
Valid, unrestricted driver’s licence holding a qualification (class) equivalent to the DND vehicle to be operated.
Eligibility and willingness to obtain the DND 404 military driver's licence.
Utilizing necessary equipment and clothing in compliance with safety regulations.
Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, Directive on Conflict of Interest, and Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 7021-1, Conflict of Interest.
Operational Requirements
Willing and able to travel.
Willing and able to work overtime on an occasional basis.
Willing and able to meet the occasional requirement to work in confined areas such as crawl spaces or at heights such as second storey roofs.

Education:
EDU. A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (See note).Note:

A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:a) Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
b) Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the EG classification.The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the EG classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.
Experience:
EX1. Experience in one of the following:
- Renovating residential single-family, semi-detached or row housing units in a professional or commercial work context.
OR
- Conducting residential housing or commercial property inspections as a main job function, including assessing property conditions and determining required maintenance and repairs.
EX2. Experience in property or facility maintenance or project management.
Knowledge:
K1. Knowledge of cost estimating and cost control techniques.
K2. Knowledge of applicable codes,
standards and materials used in residential construction and renovations.

Asset - Occupational Certification:
AOC1. Possession of a valid journeyman's certificate in a residential building trade or certification as an engineering technologist or technician.
AOC2. Interprovincial Red Seal Certification as a Carpenter, Electrician, Plumber or Gasfitter.
Asset - Knowledge:
AK1. Knowledge of contracting procedures.
Asset - Ability and skills:
AA1. Proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and email software (such as MS Office).
