Tax Preparer
(Canadian Taxes)
The Alchemy Team is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Preparer to support corporate tax preparation, personal tax preparation and filing, year-end accounting work, and T5 filings.
This is a remote, part-time position. Work will be assigned based on business needs and client engagements, and weekly hours may vary depending on workload and project requirements. The successful candidate will report to the Business Owner and the Operations Manager, and must have their own computer/device and reliable internet connection.

About The Position
Alchemy is looking for a detail-oriented Tax Preparer (Canadian Taxes) to support our clients' corporate and personal tax needs. In this role,
you will play an important part in preparing T2 corporate tax returns, filing T1 personal tax returns and T5 slips, reviewing bookkeeping records for tax readiness, and maintaining organized working papers and documentation. You will also help ensure accurate, timely, and compliant tax preparation while delivering a high-touch experience to our clients.
Prepare and file T1 Personal Income Tax Returns to CRA
Prepare and file T5 slips / dividend reporting to CRA
Review prior-year working papers and roll forward files for the current tax year
Review QuickBooks Online records and supporting documentation to ensure files are complete for tax preparation
Request and organize required tax documentation from clients
Prepare year-end adjusting journal entries where required
Review shareholder loan accounts, owner draws/contributions, retained earnings, and profitability to support dividendrecommendations
Confirm dividend amounts with clients and record dividend-related entries in QuickBooks Online following T5 preparation
Complete detailed self-review of returns and supporting working papers prior to QA review
Address review notes, make required revisions, and finalize files for approval.
Accounting
Review internal bookkeeping records for accuracy and identify corrections required prior to year-end tax work
Communicate bookkeeping corrections or required adjustments clearly
Ensure financial statements are grouped and presented clearly in a manner consistent with tax return preparation
Prepare management reports and year-end financial reporting packages for clients
Confirm prior-year adjusting journal entries have been entered where applicable.
Maintain complete, organized, and accurate working papers to support all tax filings
Create and maintain detailed progress notes in internal tracking systems
Compliance
Maintain a strong working knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal tax requirements , including T2, T1, and T5 filings
Ensure tax preparation work is accurate, complete, and compliant with CRA requirements
Stay current on relevant Canadian tax updates and filing requirements
Maintain detailed documentation to support tax preparation and internal review processes
Client Communication
Communicate professionally with clients via email, Zoom, and phone to request documentation, confirm details, and provide updates
Follow up on outstanding tax information in a timely and professional manner
Help create a smooth, organized, and positive client experience throughout the tax preparation process
Respond clearly and professionally to client questions related to documentation and filing requirements
Qualifications
Experience preparing T2 Corporate Income Tax Returns
Experience preparing and filing T1 Personal Income Tax Returns
Experience preparing and filing T5 slips / dividend reporting
Working knowledge of shareholder loans, owner draws/contributions, retained earnings, dividends, and year-end journal entries
Experience reviewing bookkeeping records and identifying adjustments required prior to tax preparation
Proficient knowledge of QuickBooks Online and ProTax required
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets and working paper preparation
Experience working in a cloud-based / paperless accounting environment preferred
CPA designation is not required ; practical Canadian tax preparation experience is preferred
Must be legally able to work in Canada
Must have reliable internet and your own computer/device suitable for remote work
Must be available to work up to 20-25 hours per week
Must be available to work during our core hours (Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM Pacific Time)
