Technical Director – Grande Peace Athletic Club (GPAC) Location: Grande Prairie, Alberta
Reports To: GPAC Board of Directors

About GPAC The Grande Peace Athletic Club (GPAC) is a premier elite hockey program dedicated to developing players and coaches to their fullest potential. We are committed to excellence on and off the ice—promoting leadership, discipline and teamwork while providing a clear pathway to higher levels of hockey.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking Technical Director to lead the technical and developmental direction of our program.
Position Summary The Technical Director is a key leadership role responsible for shaping the coaching structure, player development model, and overall hockey operations within GPAC. This position is instrumental in building and maintaining a positive, high-performance culture aligned with Hockey Alberta , Hockey Canada , and GPAC standards.
The successful candidate will mentor coaches, implement consistent development systems, and ensure every athlete and team is supported to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities Coaching Development & Mentorship Lead, mentor and evaluate coaches across all GPAC teams
Establish and uphold coaching standards aligned with Hockey Alberta & Hockey Canada guidelines
Provide coaches with the tools, resources and support needed for ongoing development
Collaborate with coaches to design structured seasonal plans and practice models
Promote a consistent, positive and accountable coaching culture
Player & Program Development Coordinate specialized development sessions (eg: Power Skating, P.E.P., Mental Skills Training)
Implement and monitor performance analysis tools (eg: InStat, Steva)
Support and guide athlete advancement to higher levels (eg: AJHL, WHL)
Build and maintain relationships with elite programs and development partners
Stay current with emerging best practices in player development
Hockey Operations Assist in recruitment, selection and evaluation of coaches (U13 AA – U18 AAA)
Plan and oversee Spring & Fall Development camps
Design and manage tryout structure, drills and evaluation processes
Implement a standardized GPAC playbook with age-appropriate progression
Coordinate video review processes and statistical tracking across teams
Attend board meetings and provide regular written reports and recommendations
Maintain clear and effective communication with players, parents and staff
Oversee administrative operations including invoicing, affiliations, HCR updates and travel logistics
Lead team onboarding, including Codes of Conduct and parent orientation sessions
Support social media presence and community engagement initiatives
Recruitment & Community Engagement Actively promote GPAC across Alberta and Canada to attract top talent
Encourage participation from players within the draw zone
Foster community involvement through mentorship and grassroots initiatives (eg: U9 engagement)
Qualifications High Performance 1 (HP1) certification preferred (or willingness to complete)
Extensive coaching experience at the Elite level (minimum U15 AAA or equivalent)
Proven success in coach mentorship and program development
Strong understanding of Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta frameworks
Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills
Experience with video and performance analysis tools is considered an asset
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
