Tekdata Metal Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer / Project Manager to take ownership of manufacturing projects from initial design through production.
The successful candidate will play a key role within our technical team and will be responsible for the design, coordination, and follow-up of multiple projects simultaneously while working closely with production, purchasing, and management.
We are looking for a candidate with strong manufacturing experience, particularly in sheet metal and stainless steel fabrication, who is capable of managing technical projects from start to finish.
Project Management
- Take ownership of projects from initial design through manufacturing;
- Plan and coordinate the various stages of assigned projects;
- Establish project schedules and technical deliverables;
- Monitor project progress and timelines;
- Coordinate technical requirements with production, purchasing, and management;
- Identify technical risks and issues and implement appropriate solutions;
- Ensure technical documentation is complete and available within required timelines;
- Follow up on issues that may impact manufacturing or project delivery;
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and workflows.
Design & Technical Support
- Design and modify parts, assemblies, and equipment according to customer requirements;
- Prepare the technical documentation required for manufacturing;
- Review and validate drawings and documentation prior to release for production;
- Ensure designs are suitable for available manufacturing processes and capabilities;
- Work directly with production teams to resolve technical and manufacturing issues;
- Develop practical solutions to challenges encountered during fabrication;
- Participate in design optimization to reduce costs, lead times, and manufacturing complexity;
- Ensure technical deliverables meet customer requirements and production needs.
Technical Team Coordination & Support
- Act as a technical resource for assigned projects;
- Collaborate with designers and other members of the technical team;
- Provide technical guidance and support when required;
- Assist in coordinating work according to production requirements and project timelines;
- Facilitate collaboration between engineering, production, purchasing, and management;
- Contribute to the improvement of technical standards and working methods.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Drafting, or equivalent manufacturing experience;
- Significant experience in mechanical design and manufacturing project management;
- Extensive experience in a sheet metal and stainless steel fabrication environment;
- Experience taking ownership of projects from design through production;
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment where design and production teams collaborate closely.

- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor;
- 3D design and modelling;
- Sheet metal part and assembly design;
- Preparation and review of manufacturing drawings;
- Extensive knowledge of sheet metal and stainless steel fabrication;
- Knowledge of laser cutting, bending, forming, welding, and assembly processes;
- Strong understanding of dimensional and geometric tolerances;
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments;
- Ability to assess manufacturability and optimize designs;
- Experience managing and coordinating manufacturing projects.
