About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented QA Technician to join our Quality Assurance team at a poultry slaughter and processing facility. The QA Technician will be responsible for monitoring food safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance throughout the slaughter and processing operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and FSQA leadership to ensure that products are manufactured safely and consistently in accordance with SFCR, CFIA requirements, HACCP, GMP, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform routine food safety and quality inspections throughout the poultry slaughter and processing operation.
- Monitor critical process steps including evisceration, carcass washing, chilling, cut-up, packaging, and storage.
- Conduct inspections for fecal contamination, ingesta, bile contamination, feathers, bruising, carcass defects, and foreign material.
- Monitor and verify CCPs and preventive controls according to the HACCP/Preventive Control Plan.
- Perform and document pre-operational and operational sanitation inspections.
- Verify equipment and processing areas are maintained in sanitary condition.
- Conduct environmental and product sampling as required, including microbiological sampling.
- Monitor product temperatures, cooler/freezer temperatures, and other process parameters.
- Verify chemical concentrations used during sanitation and processing.
- Perform ATP or other hygiene verification testing where applicable.
- Monitor the evisceration line and identify equipment/process conditions that may contribute to contamination.




- Conduct routine GMP inspections and report deviations to the appropriate department.
- Place affected product on hold when required and assist with product disposition.
- Perform verification of labeling, coding, packaging, allergen controls, and traceability.
- Complete QA records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Investigate quality and food safety deviations and assist with corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Participate in internal audits and regulatory inspections.
- Communicate food safety and quality concerns immediately to Production and QA management.
- Assist with employee training related to GMP, sanitation, food safety, and quality procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure records meet company and regulatory requirements.

Poultry Slaughter Responsibilities

The QA Technician will spend significant time on the production floor monitoring slaughter operations, including:

Receiving → Stunning → Bleeding → Scalding → Defeathering → Evisceration → Inside/Outside Wash → Chilling → Cut-Up → Packaging

Attention will be given to the evisceration process, including monitoring for intestinal rupture, fecal/ingesta contamination, improper venting, carcass damage, and machine-related contamination.

Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology,



Quality Assurance, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a poultry processing is required.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, sanitation, food safety, and preventive controls.
- Knowledge of SFCR and CFIA requirements is an asset.
- Experience with ATP testing, microbiological sampling, temperature monitoring, and QA documentation is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify food safety and quality issues.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced slaughter/processing environment.
- Comfortable working around cold temperatures, production equipment, and live/slaughter operations.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, holidays as required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who is hands-on, comfortable on the production floor, technically robust.

Experience with poultry evisceration, HACCP/Preventive Control Plans, CFIA/SFCR compliance, sanitation verification, ATP testing, environmental monitoring, and corrective actions will be considered a strong asset.

Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
