Knollcrest Lodge is seeking a full time Life Enrichment Aide to support our Life Enrichment Department. We are looking for someone who has a genuine desire and passion for serving older adults and the community of Milverton and surrounding Perth East area.
The Position
Reporting to the Life Enrichment Manager, the Life Enrichment Aide is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating meaningful recreational and social programs that reflect residents’ individual interests, abilities, needs and choices.
The Life Enrichment Aide will:
- Plan, organize and facilitate individual, small-group and large-group programs across the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, cultural and spiritual domains.
- Provide programming for residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities, including individualized and in-room activities for residents who are unable to participate in group programs.
- Encourage and assist residents to participate in programs, activities, special events and community outings.
- Observe and document resident participation and responses to programming,
evaluate program effectiveness and contribute information to resident care planning.
- Work collaboratively with the Life Enrichment team and the broader interdisciplinary team to develop an appropriate calendar of recreational and social activities that enhances residents’ quality of life.
- Assist with the preparation, setup and cleanup of programs, events and activity areas.
- Support and provide direction to volunteers and students participating in Life Enrichment activities.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, families, staff and volunteers.
- Promote resident choice, dignity, independence and safety while upholding the Residents’ Bill of Rights and Knollcrest Lodge’s policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Programs include indoor and outdoor activities, as well as off-site outings in the community, and may be scheduled during daytime and evening hours on weekdays and weekends.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
- Hold a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology or another related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution, or an equivalent credential from another jurisdiction, as determined by Knollcrest Lodge.
- Have experience working with older adults and individuals with varying physical or cognitive abilities. Experience in long-term care and dementia care is considered an asset.
- Have experience planning, delivering and evaluating social and recreational activities, including arts, crafts, music, physical activities, special events and other program domains.
- Demonstrate robust organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be creative, flexible, dependable and able to engage residents meaningfully.
- Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Possess basic computer skills and be comfortable completing required program and resident documentation.
- Be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including setting up activities, moving program supplies and assisting residents to and from programs.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
