In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of the Finnish Home, the position promotes a safe and caring environment for residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) is a clinical and operational nursing leader who supports the Director of Care in ensuring safe, high-quality, evidence based and excellence in resident-centred care. As part of the site's leadership team, the position provides daily leadership, coaching, and oversight to clinical staff. The position translates clinical standards, policies, and care plans into day-to-day practice ensuring plans are compliant with organizational goals and objectives, standards, policies and procedures, as well as applicable regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and professional standards. The ADOC plays a highly visible role on the floors, strengthening care delivery, mentoring front-line teams, supporting performance management, and contributing to quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Clinical Leadership & Quality of Care

Supports the Director of Care in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical services to achieve optimum standards of care and service for our residents.

Promotes a resident-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally respectful approach to care.

Monitors care delivery to ensure compliance with legislation, accreditation standards, and internal policies.

Implements and monitors Infection, Prevention and Control and current, evidence-based care policies and programs.

Participates in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and corrective action plans.

Supports medication safety, incident response, infection prevention and control, and clinical documentation standards.

Staff Leadership

Provides daily leadership and clinical support to Care Aides and nursing staff.





Oversees care aide practice, ensure care plans are followed, and resident needs are met consistently.

Coaches, mentors, and supports clinical staff in best practices, resident engagement, and safe care techniques.

Assists with orientation, training, skill development, and ongoing competency evaluation for staff.

Supports performance management processes, including continuous feedback, coaching, documentation, and progressive discipline as required.

Fosters a respectful, collaborative, and accountable workplace culture.

Operational & Administrative Support

Supports staffing coordination, scheduling oversight, and workload balance in collaboration with leadership and staffing teams.

Assists the Director of Care with clinical reporting, metrics, and preparation for inspections and accreditation.

Participates in recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives for care staff.

Contributes to policy development, review, and implementation.

Responsible for monitoring expenditures and variance analysis and reporting to the DOC.

Acts as designate for the Director of Care as assigned.

Resident, Family & Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Communicates with residents and families regarding care concerns and care planning to support the health and well-being of all residents.

Participates in interdisciplinary care conferences and care reviews.

Responds to complaints, incidents, and quality concerns in a timely, professional manner.

Builds strong working relationships with physicians, allied health professionals, and external partners.





Fosters the spirit, dignity and individuality of Residents in a respectful and supportive manner.

Continuous Improvement & Leadership Development

Identifies and assists with the implementation of quality improvement programs and initiatives to improve care processes, staff engagement, and resident experience.

Supports change initiatives, pilot projects, and new program implementation.

Models professional nursing leadership, ethical decision-making, and emotional intelligence.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plus a minimum of 5 years recent, related clinical experience in long term care or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Post-graduate education or certification in Gerontology is an asset. Current practicing registration in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

COMPETENCIES:

Fosters a respectful and cooperative environment where individuals can thrive.

Demonstrated experience providing leadership, coaching, or charge nurse/supervisory support to care teams. Strong working knowledge of long-term care legislation, accreditation standards, and best practices.

Formal leadership education or willingness to pursue leadership development.

Experience supporting quality improvement, audits, or accreditation processes. Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment, including computer skills and related software. Ability to utilize a patient care information system

Pay: $45.00-$55.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 22.5 per week
