The Quality Supervisor is responsible for maintaining and supporting East Coast Wild Blueberry’s food safety and quality programs at our processing facility in Glenholme, Nova Scotia.
This position works closely with Production, Operations, and the Plant Manager to ensure quality and food safety requirements are being followed throughout the facility. The role includes both detailed quality documentation and regular time on the production floor reviewing processes, employee practices, and overall compliance.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update ECWB’s food safety and quality programs
- Review completed quality and production records for accuracy and completeness
- Maintain quality forms, SOPs, controlled documents, and electronic records
- Support regulatory, customer, and third-party audits
- Monitor regulatory and food safety requirements applicable to ECWB products and operations
- Review customer specifications and ensure product requirements are being met
- Follow up on customer complaints and quality concerns
- Maintain and review quality trends, including foreign material findings, customer complaints, laboratory results, and in-process quality results
- Maintain employee quality and food safety training records
- Assist with new employee orientation and quality-related training
- Complete production floor inspections and follow up on quality or food safety concerns
- Work with Production and Operations to address deviations and improve processes
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions
- Ensure measuring and monitoring equipment is calibrated as required
- Maintain pest control records and coordinate with the service provider as required
- Support traceability, product testing, and other quality program requirements
- Maintain organized and current quality documentation
Qualifications
- Education in food science, food safety, biology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Previous quality assurance or quality control experience in a food production environment
- Commercial food processing experience
- HACCP training or certification
- Experience supporting food safety audits
- Experience with document control and quality records
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable training employees and addressing quality or food safety concerns on the production floor
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada
Experience Considered an Asset
- GFSI-recognized food safety certification programs
- Regulatory, customer, or third-party audits
- Environmental monitoring and microbiological testing
- Traceability exercises and recalls
- Customer complaint investigations
- Root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Sanitation programs
- Quality trend analysis
- Frozen food, fruit processing, or other temperature-controlled food production
Working Conditions
- Full-time, permanent, in-person position
- Combination of office and production floor work
- Regular work in ambient, cool, and cold processing areas
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Steel-toed footwear and other PPE required as applicable
- Schedule flexibility is required based on production needs
- Overtime may be required, particularly during peak production periods
- Occasional work on different shifts may be required to review operations, employees, and procedures
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $60,000–$70,000 per year
