Summary:
Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Clinic Assistant provides direct clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers while helping ensure the effective operation of the clinic. This role is responsible for patient intake and triage, vital sign collection, specimen collection, referral coordination, medical inventory management, and maintaining accurate patient records within electronic medical systems. The Clinic Assistant works closely with patients from diverse backgrounds, including homeless populations, Indigenous communities, first responders, military personnel, and veterans. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, adaptable, and committed to providing respectful, patient-centered care.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performing patient intake procedures and collecting relevant health information.
- Obtaining and documenting patient vital signs, measurements, and assessments as appropriate.
- Conducting triage and prioritizing patients based on urgency, risk factors, and clinical needs.
- Collecting blood, urine, and other specimens within scope of practice and clinic protocols.
- Accurately documenting patient information within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Coordinating incoming and outgoing referrals and supporting continuity of care.
- Assisting with appointment scheduling and managing patient bookings as required.
- Managing walk-in patients and facilitating access to care.
- Supporting healthcare providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments as appropriate.
- Maintaining medical supply inventories and coordinating restocking of clinical and office supplies.
- Assisting with data collection, reporting, and record management.
- Ensuring compliance with clinic policies, infection prevention standards, and privacy regulations.
- Providing respectful and compassionate care to patients from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Participating in required training, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Other duties as required.
Work Environment:
This position works primarily within a medical clinic environment and involves frequent interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and community members. The Clinic Assistant balances clinical and administrative responsibilities while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and compassion, and regularly works with individuals experiencing medical, mental health, social, and economic barriers. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and energetic healthcare setting while supporting the delivery of respectful, patient-centered care.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Office Assistant (MOA),
Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), or equivalent healthcare credential.
- Experience collecting blood and urine specimens within scope of practice.
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Experience performing patient intake, obtaining vital signs, and supporting clinical operations.
- Experience coordinating referrals and managing patient flow.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and commitment to supporting vulnerable and underserved populations.
- Willingness to complete confidentiality and privacy training and sign applicable confidentiality agreements.
Assets:
- Experience working in a medical clinic, primary care, community health, outpatient, or similar healthcare setting.
- Additional healthcare certifications or specialized training.
- Experience conducting triage and prioritizing urgent or at-risk patients.
- Experience managing walk-in clinics or same-day appointments.
- Experience with inventory management and medical supply ordering.
- Experience in community health, addictions, mental health, veterans' services, Indigenous health, harm reduction, or outreach settings.

Start Date:
This position is expected to begin at the end of September. The role will initially be part-time and will transition to full-time hours beginning in October.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
