Staffmax – Job Description

Job Title: Dockworker

Department: Dock Operations
Reports To: Dock Supervisor / Foreman
Shift: Afternoon/Evenings
Machine Operator: Counterbalance Forklift / Power Jack
Starting Wage: $19.00/hour

Position Summary

Staffmax is seeking a reliable and hardworking Dockworker to support day-to-day dock and warehouse operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for loading and unloading trailers, moving and organizing freight, completing shipping documentation, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Receive, count, inspect, and verify freight for damage, shortages, or overages.

- Load and unload trailers safely and efficiently.

- Sort and place freight in the appropriate warehouse locations.

- Handle shipments carefully and according to established procedures to minimize damage and claims.

- Assist with efficient trailer loading and maximize available space and load capacity.

- Complete bills of lading, shipping documents, and other required paperwork accurately.

- Maintain an organized, clean, and hazard-free dock and warehouse area.

- Operate forklifts, power jacks, hand dollies, and other material-handling equipment safely and properly.

- Follow all workplace safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.

- Dispose of garbage and waste in designated areas.

- Work effectively as part of a team while meeting daily operational and productivity goals.





- Perform other dock and warehouse duties as required.

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a fast-paced logistics, freight, shipping, or receiving environment.

- Previous experience handling freight and warehouse materials.

- Experience operating freight-moving or material-handling equipment.

- Solid organizational and communication skills.

- Good attention to detail and ability to work accurately under deadlines.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a team.

- Strong commitment to workplace safety.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.

- Ability to repeatedly bend, twist, stand, and walk throughout the workday.

- Good hand, foot, and eye coordination.

- Ability to safely judge weights, distances, and heights when handling freight.

- Comfortable working in varying temperatures depending on seasonal conditions.

- Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, power jacks, and hand dollies.

- Must be able and willing to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

This is a physically demanding position in a busy dock and warehouse environment. The successful candidate must be safety-conscious, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced setting where productivity, accuracy, and teamwork are important.
