Concrete Superintendent — SlabTec Surface Solutions Ltd.
SlabTec is a concrete placing and finishing contractor. We do flatwork, and specialty finishes — exposed aggregate, micro-exposed, stamped, and polished — for commercial builders, general contractors, and homeowners. We are growing, we are investing in doing this properly, and we are looking for the person who will run our field operations.
This is not a working foreman position. You will not be on the trowel all day. You will be ahead of the work: making sure the next day is ready before the current one ends, holding crews to a standard, and closing the loop on the paperwork so the office can bill and cost the job correctly.
If you are a strong foreman ready to step up, or a superintendent who wants to build something rather than inherit it, this is the job. We are hiring immediately.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Lead the crews
- Run all SlabTec field crews across placement, finishing, and related scopes
- Set daily and weekly expectations with each foreman — scope, crew size, sequence, targets
- Get to every active site on a regular cadence and confirm the work matches the plan
- Deal with performance and conduct issues directly, and document them
Plan the work
- Build the field schedule alongside the owner, and take on more of it as you establish yourself
- Keep the FieldPulse schedule accurate — it's the source of truth for who is where
- Plan crew assignments a week ahead and confirm tomorrow with each foreman before the end of every shift
- Book concrete, pumps, cranes, and equipment so nothing stops a placement
- Confirm site readiness before mobilizing: access, base, forms, rebar, embeds, weather, inspections
Own the quality
- Own QA/QC on every placement, finish, cure, and protection
- Apply CSA A23.1 and A23.2 in the field — mix, slump, air, temperature, tolerances, testing
- Check base, thickness, reinforcement, slope, joint and sawcut layout, and finish type against the drawings
- Reject non-conforming loads and conditions. You have the authority; we expect you to use it
- Document every placement with photos, tickets, and conditions
- When something goes wrong, find the root cause and fix the process, not just the slab
Own the safety
- Act as safety captain for our field operations
- Make sure orientations, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments happen and get documented on every site
- Watch for the hazards specific to our work — silica, chemicals, pump and hose safety, lifts, edges, traffic
- Confirm tickets and PPE are current before anyone is assigned
- Stop work when it isn't protected. No permission required
Own the paperwork
- Act as timesheet captain — accurate hours, on the right job, on time, every week
- Confirm crew hours on site and cross-check them against our time system to catch what's missed
- Sign off the crew timesheet and upload it to the job so the office can invoice without chasing you
- Keep daily job notes current: crew, hours, quantities, weather, delays, direction received
- Document changes and extras when they happen, with written acknowledgement before the work proceeds
Coordinate and develop
- Represent SlabTec at site meetings with general contractors, trade partners, and consultants
- Set client expectations on finish, cure, protection, and access before the pour, not after
- Onboard and train new field staff to our standards
- Develop your foremen so the company has depth behind you
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years hands-on concrete placement and finishing, including flatwork and slab-on-grade
- 3+ years leading crews as a foreman, lead hand, or superintendent
- Working knowledge of CSA A23.1 and A23.2 as you actually apply it in the field
- Able to read and work from structural and architectural drawings
- Current occupational first aid and a valid Class 5 licence with a clean abstract
- Comfortable with scheduling and time-tracking apps on a phone or tablet, or able to pick them up fast
- Able to write a clear note, report, or email
Nice to have
- Supervisory, safety, or construction management training
- Decorative and specialty finish experience — exposed aggregate, micro-exposed, stamped, polished
- Self-consolidating concrete and topping slabs
- Coordinating pumps, cranes, and buckets on tight sites
- Fall protection, confined space, traffic control, or equipment tickets
WHO DOES WELL HERE
- You hold a standard, and you hold people to it without needing to be liked for it
- You plan ahead — a surprise on site tells you something about your planning
- You do the paperwork with the same discipline as the work
- You say the hard thing early, and in writing when it matters
- You own the outcome instead of finding who to blame for it
WHAT WE OFFER
- $47.15/hour
- Company truck provided
- Paid training and certification that are job relevant
- Real authority over how the work gets done, and a direct line to the owner
- A company building its systems properly — your input shapes how we operate, not just what we pour
WORKING CONDITIONS
Outdoor work in all weather. Early starts and extended days when the pour requires it. Regular travel between active sites in a single day. Lifting up to 50 lb, and walking, standing, bending, and climbing on active construction sites.
