The Chance

As a Wildlife Management Technician (WMT), you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring the safety of aircraft and passengers at YVR. Imagine spending your shifts driving on the airfield, taxiways, and runways, identifying hazardous wildlife species, and using an array of tools—including pyrotechnics, falconry, and drones—to mitigate risks. You’ll collaborate with our dedicated team, YVR staff, and air traffic control, making real-time decisions that protect lives.

What You’ll Do

- Patrol & Protect: Drive in the airport environment, maintain situational awareness, and deploy wildlife dispersal tools to minimize hazards to aircraft. We are a 24/7 operation, day and night shifts are required, we work weekends and holidays too.
- Innovate & Adapt: Use firearms,



pyrotechnics, falconry birds, canines, drones, boat, traps, and more to manage wildlife.
- Monitor & Report: Identify wildlife, collect data, complete reports, and respond to wildlife strikes.
- Maintain & Manage: Keep company vehicles and equipment in top shape, ensuring safety and readiness. Care for the animals involved in the program.

- Detail-Oriented & Tech-Savvy: You’re resourceful and comfortable with technology. You have a keen eye for detail and great observational skills.
- Experienced with Wildlife: You have experience in animal training, falconry, hunting, trapping, birdwatching, and/or wildlife identification.

Assets

- Driver’s License:



A valid BC Class 5 license or North American equivalent, with a clean driving record. Ability to obtain airside driver’s permit (D-AVOP).
- Firearms Certification: A valid Firearms Possession and Acquisition - unrestricted certificate (PAL).
- Hunter Licence: Completion of the CORE Training course and possession of a BC Hunter licence.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken) and a Radiotelephone Restricted Operator’s Certificate - Aeronautical.
- Clean Record: Ability to pass a Criminal and Enhanced Background Check by Transport Canada (RAIC) and local police.
- Eligibility: Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, already legally eligible to work in Canada.
