Financial Analyst (Payroll & Accounting)
Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 2-Month Contract

Compensation: $31.00–$37.00 per hour
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Analyst – Payroll & Accounting to provide temporary support to the Finance team for a two-month contract.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will provide support across payroll administration, accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Manager and third-party service providers to ensure payroll and benefits are processed accurately and on time, while also supporting broader financial reporting and planning requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with a strong accounting foundation and hands-on payroll experience who is comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll & Benefits
- Liaise with third-party payroll providers to administer and process scheduled payroll runs.
- Prepare and process payroll entries and reconciliations.
- Review payroll information for accuracy and investigate discrepancies.
- Coordinate employee enrollments, terminations, and other advantages-related changes with third-party providers.
- Respond to and resolve payroll and benefits-related inquiries and issues, working with HR or other internal partners as required.
- Ensure payroll and benefits changes are processed accurately and within established deadlines.
- Maintain accurate payroll and benefits documentation.
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Perform bookkeeping activities and support day-to-day accounting functions.
- Prepare monthly and ad-hoc account reconciliations.
- Support the processing and recording of member payments and financial transactions.
- Investigate discrepancies relating to member payments and transactions.
- Provide updates and financial information to internal departments as required.
- Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare scheduled and ad-hoc financial reports, reconciliations, and account summaries.
- Support the preparation of business cases, project budgets, and other financial analyses.
- Assist the Finance Manager with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Provide financial analysis and information to support departmental budgeting and decision-making.
- Assist with developing long-term financial plans and analyzing the potential impact of changes to the organization's financial position.
- Identify trends, variances, and potential issues and provide relevant information to the Finance Manager.
Audit & Compliance
- Provide support during the annual audit, including preparing financial records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with gathering information and responding to audit requests.
- Ensure financial and payroll activities are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures,
and applicable requirements.
- Maintain awareness of applicable financial reporting, payroll legislation, trends, and practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Four-year university degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Enrolled in the Canadian Payroll Association program or equivalent payroll certification program.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience with exposure to accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting/analysis, and audit.
- Hands-on experience supporting payroll processing, including payroll entries and reconciliations.
- Knowledge of payroll practices and applicable legislation.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience with accounting and payroll software.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when handling payroll and financial information.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote environment.
- Strong judgment and discretion when handling confidential payroll and financial information.
- Experience within a regulatory, professional association, or membership-based organization is considered an asset.
