Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and skilled Public Works Operator to join our team. This position plays an important role in maintaining municipal infrastructure, facilities, and services that support the day-to-day needs of our community.

The Public Works Operator will perform a variety of hands-on duties and operate municipal equipment and tools in support of arena and rink operations, road maintenance, water and sewer systems, municipal facilities, grounds maintenance, and other Public Works functions. The successful candidate will be safety-conscious, mechanically inclined, able to work independently, and willing to take on a variety of responsibilities as operational needs change throughout the year.

Work Schedule

Flexibility in scheduling is essential for this position. Working hours will vary seasonally based on municipal operations and facility requirements.

During the winter months, this position will serve as the primary rink maintenance operator, with regular evening and weekend shifts required. Responsibilities will include rink and ice maintenance and other duties associated with the operation of the facility.

During the summer months, the schedule will transition primarily to weekday daytime hours, with some weekend coverage required as needed.

Responsibilities

- Operate heavy machinery such as zamboni tractor, skid steer, backhoes, grader, and to perform construction, repair, and maintenance tasks across public infrastructure projects.
- Use hand tools and power tools for routine repairs, installations,



and upgrades of municipal facilities.
- Conduct rigging operations for lifting and positioning heavy materials or equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical systems on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform welding tasks for pipe repairs, structural modifications, or fabrication projects related to public works infrastructure.
- Operate forklifts and other specialized equipment to move materials around work sites safely.
- Follow safety protocols rigorously while working with oil & gas components or hazardous materials involved in municipal operations.

Requirements

- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as zamboni tractor, skid steer, backhoes, and grader is considered an asset.
- Mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on machinery.
- Skilled in rigging techniques for lifting heavy loads securely.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and safety standards related to their use.
- Valid certification or licensing for forklift operation; additional certifications in heavy equipment operation are considered an asset.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and handling hazardous materials is a plus.
- Strong physical stamina with the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
