Position Summary

Adventure Daycare Society is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) to join our licensed childcare program in Cumberland, BC.

Our programs provide child-led, relationship-based early learning with a strong emphasis on outdoor education, nature-based programming, play, exploration and the principles of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework.

The successful applicant will primarily support children from infancy to five years of age and will work collaboratively with certified Early Childhood Educators to provide a safe, responsive and engaging childcare environment.

Job Duties

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant will:

- Support Early Childhood Educators in developing and implementing programs that support the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
- Provide responsive care and supervision for infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.
- Engage children in developmentally appropriate activities including storytelling, creative arts, music, movement, sensory experiences, dramatic play and outdoor exploration.
- Support programming informed by the principles of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework.
- Participate in regular outdoor and nature-based programming in a variety of weather conditions.
- Assist with observations and documentation of children's interests, experiences and development.




- Support positive guidance and relationship-based approaches to children's behaviour.
- Assist children with daily routines including meals, toileting, dressing, rest periods and transitions.
- Maintain safe, healthy and inclusive indoor and outdoor environments.
- Establish positive relationships with children, families and other educators.
- Communicate observations regarding children's development and wellbeing to Early Childhood Educators and supervisors.
- Assist with maintaining program materials, equipment and learning environments.
- Follow applicable BC Child Care Licensing Regulations, health and safety requirements and organizational policies.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development as required.

Education and Certification

Applicants must have:

- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- Early Childhood Educator Assistant education/coursework meeting the requirements for certification in British Columbia.
- A valid British Columbia Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Certificate, or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Current First Aid certification appropriate for licensed childcare, or ability to obtain certification prior to beginning employment.

Experience

Applicants must have:

- Previous experience working in a licensed childcare or early learning environment.




- Experience providing care and programming for children from infancy to five years of age.
- Experience applying or working within the principles of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework (BC ELF/ELYF).
- Experience participating in or delivering outdoor, nature-based or place-based early childhood programming.

Skills and Abilities

The successful applicant will have:

- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice for infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.
- Understanding of child-led and play-based early learning.
- Knowledge of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework.
- Ability to actively participate in outdoor programming throughout the year.
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively under the guidance of Early Childhood Educators.
- Ability to establish positive and responsive relationships with children.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a childcare team.
- Reliability, professionalism and sound judgment.
