Cook / Chef de Partie — Lowertown Brewery, 73 York St.Overview
Lowertown Brewery is a high-volume restaurant and brewery in the heart of Ottawa’s ByWard Market, and we’re looking for an experienced Cook / Chef de Partie to join our kitchen team.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys a fast-paced kitchen, takes pride in executing food consistently, and understands the importance of strong preparation and organization. Lowertown is a busy operation, particularly during weekends, events, and peak tourism periods, so we’re looking for someone who can stay organized, communicate well, and maintain quality when the kitchen gets busy.
The ideal candidate brings solid cooking fundamentals, a strong work ethic, and a team-first attitude. We hold ourselves to high standards for food quality, cleanliness, consistency, and hospitality, and we’re looking for someone who shares that commitment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items according to Lowertown Brewery’s recipes, plating standards, and quality expectations
- Execute your station efficiently and consistently throughout service
- Complete station setup, mise en place, and breakdown while maintaining a clean and organized workspace
- Ensure dishes leaving your station meet our standards for taste, portioning, presentation, and consistency
- Work effectively in a high-volume environment while maintaining quality during peak service periods
- Follow proper food handling,
storage, and sanitation procedures in accordance with Ottawa Public Health guidelines
- Monitor station inventory and communicate prep or replenishment needs to kitchen leadership
- Collaborate with cooks, dishwashers, and kitchen leaders to maintain smooth and effective service
- Assist with prep, receiving, cleaning, and other kitchen responsibilities as required
- Uphold all health, safety, and food safety policies at all times
Experience
- Previous experience working in a professional restaurant, hotel, pub, or similar kitchen environment
- Experience in a high-volume kitchen is considered a strong asset
- Strong cooking fundamentals and an understanding of proper kitchen techniques
- Solid knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen hygiene best practices
- Strong mise en place and organizational skills
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain composure during busy services
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays
- A team-first attitude, good communication skills, and a willingness to learn and improve
- Red Seal certification or culinary school training is considered an asset, but not required — we hire based on skill, attitude, and work ethic
Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
